Justified was released November 5, 2002. After Nsync decided to have a 6-month hiatus, Justin Timberlake also decided that he wanted to make his first solo album. It didn't mean that Nsync was breaking up, but it was something Justin wanted to try to attempt. Not only would he release his solo album, but also his deep feelings and emotions after his heartbreaking split with pop diva, Britney Spears.
During an interview with Barbara Walters on 20/20, Barbara asked him if he was with someone, and he simply said "Yes...right now, those 13 tracks on my album are my girlfriend."
The Neptunes (Pharrell Williams), Timbaland, Bubba Sparxxx, Janet Jackson, Clipse, and Brian McKnight were some artists that Timberlake collaborated with on Justified. Although many assume that Justified is a pop album, it's not. It can also be considered r&b, hip-hop, and a little bit of rap.
Justin's first single was track 2, Like I Love You, which he performed at the 2002 MTV VMAS. It debuted at #1 on TRL and was constantly being requested on the radio. His 2nd and current single is Cry Me A River, which features Timbaland.

Many assume that Justin Timberlake is imitating Michael Jackson, but he claims that he's not; he says that everything he does is totally him and that he's not trying to copy anybody. Being compared to such a phenomenon puts too much pressure on him.
While Like I Love You created much talk about stereotyping, Cry Me A River arose lots of controversy. Although it was denied that the negativity in the song was directed at Miss Spears, *Nsync and Timberlake fans made it reasonable enough to come to this conclusion. The concept of the video and the Britney look-a-like and her role in it led many to believe only one thing. Justin has replied to everyone's questioning by saying "When you watch the video, you either have a sense of humor or you don't."
Justin had recently broken his foot while rehearsing for upcoming scheduled appearances, causing many of them to be canceled. The doctor told him that it would heal in a couple weeks though he'd prefer if Justin rest a little longer, but Justin refused. He not only performed at the Billboard Music Awards 2002, but he also had a kick-ass performance at the Z100 Jingleball 2002, which did throw people off because nobody expected him to dance.
So far Justified has been a success. It has done better than Christina Aguilera's and Nick Carter's albums. It has sold over a million copies. Now, Justin is going on tour in the summer of 2003. With who? CHRISTINA AGUILERA! LoL . They are thinking of possibly writing some things together if there is any down time during their touring.
