focus's review of the 45.) The Smuts ”Shock Therapy” b/w “Teenage Fuck-up”” (45, produced by Brad, brad (vocals, drums), R.J. (vocals, guitar), Liz (bass), no more than three minutes, tops) No reason to mince words here, as we zing this past the judge’s table for this slab of wax from Kankakee, IL’s Sack O’ Shit label (home of the Parmesan Icee, we’re told). The A-sider is a typ punk skrawler, opening with a tinge of feedback before these three Dunedudians hammer out the rapid-action verse-chorus-verse. Everything’s kosher, ‘cept the weirdest echo chamber effect we’ve ever heard, that makes the band sound like they were recorded in a submarine submerged beneath the Arctic Circle (don’t ask us how we know, we just know). The flip is a fast ‘n’ furious blurt that rips by so quick, you may think it’s a scratch. (For you few audiophiles still left alive, this is cut so thick and wide, you can actually see the deep dimension of the grooves-just don’t fall in). If you’re still living ’77, at least live it with this. (contact: 2489 Del Rio Way, Dunedin, FL 34698)

(blank generation review) Smuts/Evolutions "Split" 7" It’s a fuckin’ Kryptonite record. You should know what to expect by now. The Smuts are living distortion. They are just fuzzy all over with catchy little ditties like "Punk Rock Girl" and "Suprize Package for Mr. Lowery", I won’t give the "suprize" away, but it’s arousing to say the least. The Evolutions are another trashy, clamorous bunch of fucks. If you’re prone to garbage can recordings like I am you have to check out every Kryptonite release, you… you fuckin’ kids! (smashing transistors review)EVOLUTIONS "Primate Not Ape" 7in EP/split with the Smuts 7in Ep both Kryptonite/"Hail Fucked Up R&B" Yakisakana 7in: There's this guy who always calls on the radio show and accuses me of trying to ruin his stereo and trying to influence him to murder every time I play something by this band. At first I thought it was this crazy guy who I used to live across the street from but then I remembered he's jail for manslaughter himself these days. Could this this be what drove him to kill? A classroom fulla elementary kids hopped up on Pixie Sticks couldn't make a noise as juvenile and racketous as this. I think all this stuff is recorded on two track cuz the rest of them blew up!! There's definitely something up in Wisconsin. (Kryptonite/827 Lincoln Blvd./Manitowac, Wi/54220 )
