In mythological tales the god Glaucus eloped with Symi, the daughter of the king of Ialysus on Rhodes, and brought her to an island, to which she gave her name.
Symi can be found in the Dodecanese islands, Greece, 24 nautical miles to the north east of Rhodes, and is one of the most picturesque Greek islands with mountains which descend steeply to the sea to form secluded bays and beaches.
