Above: Work in progress - Cabinets for John Kreskovsky's 2-way 4th order (acoustic) design
John Kreskovsky's 2-way design (top) at audiodiycentral.com
This 2-way 4th order acoustic sealed-box design employs the well-known Vifa D25AG-35-06 1" aluminum dome tweeter and Vifa P17WJ-00-08 mineral-filled polypropylnene cone midbass. Veneer is mahogany stained with cherry stain and sealed with some polyeurethane "invisible" clear coat. Credits to other designers: "False front" baffle technique and veneering methods borrowed from Terry F. Midbass cutout internal routering concept borrowed from John "Zaph" Krutke. Thanks to all three of these guys for their contributions to speaker DIY audio!______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Below: How to delay individual channel pairs using a VST host and a (free) Voxengo "latency delay" plugin. I tested this configuration and multiple instances seem to work okay - but you need to orientate the controls so that association with the correct delay plugin is intuitive - each instance has the same label...

Below: I call them "Dipole's on a budget". Drivers are McBride - "Princess" 8" full range.

Below: The frequency response of the Princess fullrange is quite tame for a full range that costs $30! The Behringer could fix this...

Below: Applying 5 different EQ filters with the Behringer and incorporating the Access dual 8" woofer cabinets in under 275Hz and... VOILA! Two-way Dipole Debauchery. Are they awesome?? I would not say THAT - but they sure are INTERESTING - and they image like speakers that cost many many times more!

Below: "Upgraded" Koss M105+ MTM's (Dual Vifa/JBL 4.5" midbass and an Audax 1" Neo tweet), but this time they sit atop of a dual 8" Access 8DB (treated paper/1"VC) woofer cab with rear firing 4" dia. x 6" port . No final measurements just yet... but so far, the punch, imaging and resolution of this setup definately exceeded my expectations. The Behringer DCX2496 is being used here, with a Marantz SR6200 providing the six required channels of (equal) power. To the right is one of the "old faithful" DIY Focal three-way towers, and two rather large (120 litre) Focal 12V726S woofer cabinets in the background.

Below: Here is one Koss M105+ before I retrofitted both with two 12 Ohm Vifa made (for JBL) midbass drivers and Vifa Neodymium tweets. Gotta love buyouts at PartsExpress.

Below: Here is how the Vifa's in a MTM config actually measured using ETF. This is not going to be so easy!

Below: Picked 200Hz and 3.5khz with 24dB/Oct. LR filters just to see how things summed up where I wanted to cross them over. Not good.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Below: The Behringer strikes again - I had to settle for really steep (8th octave LR) slopes to cut off the insanity of the midbass below 450Hz and above 2.2K. After time alignment and some equalization, VOILA! Not bad. But I would not want to build a passive crossover using these drivers. Buyouts are sometimes cheap for a reason! How do they sound? Quite good - considering the cost - but not quite as much resolution as my Focal 3 way towers. Whaddya want for $27 US a side??

Below: I call this one "Digital Tri-amp insanity" The switches select either the Neutrik Speakon connectors direct to each driver, or the passive crossover via the lower terminals.

Below: Close-up of the (left) B-glow 300B monoblock, Romulus integrated tube amp, and a Marantz SR6200 HT Receiver - which is connected to my home theatre PC (HTPC) via a 45 foot TOSLINK cable from my soundcards optical SPDIF output. The HTPC is better for video too - you have full control over refresh rates, color, gama, tint - you name it. All with the click of a mouse! I use WinDVD 5 Platinum as my primary player.

Below: In this shot, you can see the Saxon CD700 CD Player, the (right) 300B B-Glow monoblock, and a Behrigner CX-3400 active crossover on top of an older CD player (used for less critical listening). In the backround you can see the dual Parts Express Plate amps, and behind the center channel is a sneaky little switch box which allows me to choose the source for the sub amps - the tube amp or the HT Receiver. If TUBE is selected, the pre-out of the Romulus is low-passed at 60Hz using the Behringer. Sneaky heh?

Below: This is my unique "upstairs system" I threw together just for the fun of it.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Below: Close-up of the three-way I put together. Its a Focal 12V726S with a JBL 2441J horn, and a JBL 2405H super tweet. Woof to mid-horn crossover is active at 500hertz. Mid-horn to super-tweet is a 3rd order Butterworth at 8K. Supertweet polarity is reversed, and the 2441 is padded down quite a bit.

Well, thats all the pics of my system I have for now.
Below you can check out the system my buddy Howard has!! (Guess who got me into the whole Focal / Tube amp thing?!?)

HEY! Thanks for stopping by! And remember - no matter HOW much the wife complains about this hobby - just tell her "Hi-Fidelity is better than IN-Fidelity!".
