Science 9 – Mrs. Brantley and Mrs. Wilder

We are looking forward to an exciting school year! We enjoy teaching physical science! We expect our students to learn what we teach and to have fun in the process. To ensure a productive school year, please be aware of the following expectations.

Expectations:

1. Be on time for class. The tardy policy, as outlined in the student handbook, is enforced. You should be in your seat and ready for class when the bell rings. You are expected to remain in class during the entire period. You will be charged with a classroom interruption should it be necessary to leave the room, i.e. restroom, locker, attendance office, etc. You will not be charged with an interruption if an administrator requests you. Tardies and classroom interruptions are documented. Disciplinary action by the teacher will occur after three tardies. A discipline referral will be completed when the number of tardies and/or interruptions reaches four.

2. Be prepared. It is your responsibility to have all necessary materials for class each day. We must insist that textbooks be covered. This is a state law! A brown grocery bag is best suited for a cover.

3. Be courteous. We will expect everyone to behave appropriately at all times. Enter the room properly and politely. Respect each other! I will not tolerate any name-calling or "cutting down" of any students.

4. Do your best. We will expect your work to be neat, legible, and turned in on time. Unsatisfactory work will be returned for you to do again. Remember, your work is a reflection of you as a person.

5. No food, drinks, or gum in the classroom. All food and bottled beverages brought to school should be placed in your locker prior to coming to class. A classroom interruption will be charged to you should you have to take them to your locker after class has begun.

6. No unauthorized experimentation. You are not to bother any lab equipment or set-up unless given permission by me. This is for your safety as well as the integrity of the experiment being conducted.

7. Grades. 70% of your grade will be based on formal assessments. 30% will reflect homework, projects, labs, etc. Be sure you come to class everyday and keep up with your work. We strongly suggest you find someone in the class who can be your buddy. In the event you are ill, call your buddy to find out about classwork and homework. Work assigned before your absence is due the day you return to class. Make up work is accepted according to the guidelines listed in your student handbook. It is your responsibility to make arrangements for makeup work within a limited time. A zero will be assigned if makeup work is not turned in at the appointed time. Extenuating circumstances should be reported to me as soon as possible for consideration. In the event of an extended illness, you may request assignments by calling the attendance office. You must arrange, with the attendance clerk, to pick up these assignments.

Discipline:

We have afternoon detention on Friday afternoons from 3:15-3:45 for minor discipline problems. Actions that result in detention include, but are not limited to, the following: talking at inappropriate times, chewing gum or eating in class, disrupting instruction, defacing school property, and treating others and their property disrespectfully.

In the event that detention is assigned, a notice will be sent or a phone call made to inform the parents of the discipline problem. Failure to attend detention will result in a discipline referral to an administrator.

In addition to detention, all conduct problems will be recorded on a discipline record. When four problems have been recorded, the discipline record will be attached to a discipline referral sent to the appropriate administrator. In the event of a serious discipline problem, an office referral will be made immediately.
