Dear Physical Science Parent,
We are not allowed to collect fees for lab activities for our required science courses. Since all students are required to take four science courses, we are inadequately funded for proper science instruction along with necessary lab activities. Our equipment and replacement costs of disposable goods are very expensive. For example, an electronic balance costs $200.00, a triple beam scale costs $125, and two graduated cylinders cost $27, just to name a few. Chemicals are constantly being used up and must be replaced. The state does not provide adequate funding for a simple lab for a single teacher.
We are constantly striving to make the best possible use of our lab monies. While a lab fee is not mandatory, in order for a student to participate in a lab that requires purchased materials we are requesting a lab donation of $15.00 per student. Your donation is tax deductible and will be put to wise use. The BRHS Science Department is grateful for your continued support of quality science instruction for your children.
Thank you,
Sharon Brantley
