SCAPHOPODA- "tusk shells" means: shovel foot Their tubular shell is open at both ends unlike most other mollusks whose shell open at only one end. They live adult life in th emud of sand with the narrow end of the shell this alows for water and waste exchange. They have no gills so their mantle tissue functions in collecting oxygen in the place of gills. They have cilia-bearing tentacles which serve in place of eyes. They eat forums, detritus, and bivalves. After hatching from their eggs they go through a free-swimming trochophore and veliger.
