Geri Halliwell is just the latest star to go down the animal track to boost her image.

Most favour snakes, but the former Spice Girl is pictured provocatively posing with an alligator on a leash for a magazine shoot.

The pictures will appear in next month’s Cosmopolitan alongside Geri’s first major interview since putting on weight.

The 30-year-old, who lives in George Michael’s LA pad and has battled the slimmer’s disease bulimia, bites back at critics of her new fuller figure. She says she loves her bigger boobs and is feeling sexier than ever.

But the Watford-born star — who is also trying to promote her updated biography Just For The Record — admits that her new look has not helped her snap up Mr Right.

Admitting that her old, ultra skinny body was a mistake, Geri says: “I have food in my fridge today that I couldn’t allow into the house two years ago for fear of bingeing. There’s ice cream and peanut butter.

“Hormonally my body is growing into a woman’s — I’m a late developer. My breasts are bigger.

“I must admit I do feel sexier with a little bit more flesh to my bones.”

But she adds: “I’ve been on so many dates and the same kind of person always keeps appearing.

“They’re not available, or they’re flaky.”

Geri’s ’gator get-up may seem eccentric. But as we show on the right, the reptile ruse has been adopted by a long list of celebrities.

They have all adder go at tipping the scales in their favour with a relaxed reptile for company.

Some have lasted the course, for the rest it’s a case of see you later alligator.

From cudly to raunchy, Emma is sexiest
As a Spice Girl she was always more cuddly than raunchy. Emma Bunton's appeal was strictly of the fresh-faced girl next-door variety. 

Now, though, while one-time bandmates Geri Halliwell and Victoria Beckham struggle to maintain successful solo careers, Baby Spice has quietly transformed herself into Britain's sexiest female pop star. She was the top-scoring Briton in a nationwide viewers' poll for the cable and satellite music channel VH1. The result follows a strict diet and exercise regime prior to the release of her comeback single, Free Me, for which she has also slimmed down her name by dropping her surname. 

Emma, now 27, claims to have lost a stone and a half, though there are those who claim her sleek new look also owes something to the wonders of digital special effects. Yesterday she said: 'I'm really flattered to be voted Britain's sexiest woman. I'm glad to see that curves are coming back.' Free Me is currently at No.11 on the UK singles chart.

Sadly, On The Horizon failed to reach the top 10 in the UK charts and stood miserably at number 14, while band mate Emma Bunton stood at number 11 in its second week!

The former Spice Girl poured herself into a tiny white minidress which showed those sumptuous curves to great effect.

Emma's latest single, Free Me, went top 5 in the charts and she said: "The Next single is really cool too. You're gonna love it. You're gonna be up and dancing to it."

Meanwhile Emma was looking forward to a girlie spree with her old Spice mate Mel C.

Melanie's management today cleared up some rumors that came up recently: 

- Yeh Yeh Yeh will be a single release in Europe (apparently the european branches of Virgin wanted this to be a single ever since they heared Reason) 
- Positively Somewhere will be a single release in the UK. 
- Both will most likely have the same b-sides, however each will get a seperate video. 
- Let's Love will be released in Japan, but there will be no video. 
-The rumour about Positively Somewhere being the theme song for the premiereship is not true

THE father of a Romanian medical student cleared of plotting to kidnap Victoria Beckham, the former Spice Girl, and her children has revealed that his son is planning to take legal action against the newspaper which initially accused him of orchestrating the plot. 

Abduction charges against five men: Adrian Pasaraneu, 27, Alin Turcu, 18, Luzim Balliu, 30, and two others, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, all accused of a £5 million plot to kidnap Ms Beckham, collapsed on Tuesday after a court was told the key witness in the case was a convicted liar who had been paid £10,000 by the News of the World newspaper. 

The charges against the men were dropped after the Crown admitted the kidnap plan may have been "a put-up job" conceived by Florim Gashi, the main prosecution witness and the newspaper’s informant. 

Last night, Mr Pasaraneu’s father, Ioan, 56, said his son fully intended taking legal action against the News of the World. He said: "I always trusted British justice would see through this and my son now intends to take legal action against the newspaper." 

On Tuesday, Judge Simon Smith referred the matter to the Attorney General, expressing concern that payments to witnesses in celebrity cases were having a "detrimental effect" on criminal proceedings.

Her sophisticated new single, "Free Me" headed straight into the UK Top 40 at Number 5. 

Emma is made up: "I want to say a big, big thank you to everyone who's shown me so much support over the past few months, you've all been wonderful. I'm so happy with the single and getting a top five with it is like the cherry on the cake. Thank you."

And for his latest reclamation project? Posh Spice. 

Ex-Spice Girl Victoria Beckham is recording a new solo album that Roc-A-Fella honcho Damon Dash will oversee. The as-yet-untitled album, due in September, will be released on Beckham's European label, Telstar, and through Roc-A-Fella in the States. 

"I've never helped anyone outside the Roc like this, so this is different for me," Dash said. "But when we talked, I got to feeling how she wants to win like I want to win. I got to see where her heart is and how she'd work hard to promote her record."

Dash already snapped up Beckham, wife of English soccer star David Beckham, to promote Roc-A-Wear, the clothing line he owns with Jay-Z, in billboard ads alongside Naomi Campbell and as the line's European spokesperson as it's launched overseas (see "Dame Dash Nabs Spice Girl To Rep For The Roc". But recently, the two met in Paris to discuss Beckham's musical aspirations. Dash realized there was serious pop potential in their relationship. 

"She pays close attention to what makes people move and she truly loves hip-hop and R&B as well as pop," Dash explained.

Almost more surreal than the partnership between one of hip-hop's most savvy moguls and one of pop's ex-icons is who exactly Dash has her working with. Already, he's overseen the recording of two songs — "It's That Simple" with M.O.P. and "Let's Do It Again" with Cam'ron. 

"She went into the gutter," Dash laughed. "I mean, M.O.P. is the grimiest group we got, and she took it there. I wanted to push her limits." 

When Dash introduced her to M.O.P. in the studio, they didn't know who she was. "They thought they were just doing me a favor. But she won them over. They liked her as an individual." 

Dash doesn't know if Jay-Z will make a cameo, but he's already recruited Macy Gray and Ol' Dirty Bastard, a.k.a. Dirt McGirt, to write songs with her.

Any criticism fans of the Roc may have with this latest signing can get kicked to the curb, Dash says. "If I say it's aiight, it's aiight. I think I've built up enough respect in hip-hop at this point that they should trust my opinion. They wasn't worried about it with Jay. They wasn't worried about it with ODB. They shouldn't be worried about it now. You watch — I'm not just going to make her a pop star but a Roc star, too."

Victoria's new album won't be released until next year, but her new single will be released this summer.

Soccer ace on horseBeck 

DAVID Beckham takes time out from soccer’s transfer merry-go-round — for a spin on a real funfair. 

Doting dad Becks took sons Brooklyn and Romeo for some horseplay on a carousel during a trip to Disneyland, California.

The Man Utd star, 28, trendily dressed in baggy hip hop clothes, climbed aboard a toy horse clutching nine-month-old Romeo in his lap.

And Brooklyn, four, showed his delight by whooping with laughter as he rode alongside on a trusty steed of his own.

An onlooker said: “It was very sweet. Brooklyn wouldn’t leave David’s side and all you could hear was, “Dad, Dad!”.”

Posh and Becks took the kids to the park north of Los Angeles as part of a US trip that has already seen them wow New York.

Becks, linked to rumours of a transfer to Barcelona and out of last night’s England game, wore a support on a broken bone in his hand.

After the carousel, the boys were joined on a Teacups whirligig by Victoria, 29, who looked a knockout in skimpy vest and mini skirt. 

With the family were several relatives, including David’s mum and Posh’s sister and parents.

Victoria's Kidnaping planners has collapsed
The trial of five men charged in connection with an alleged plot to kidnap Victoria Beckham has collapsed. The case was thrown out at Middlesex Guildhall Crown Court, central London, after the Crown Prosecution Service said the evidence of a key witness was unreliable.

The four Romanians and one Kosovan Albanian were accused of plotting the abduction on or before November 2 last year. They were charged after a story appeared in the News of the World newspaper.

They wore matching white designer outfits and Becks was dripping in £75,000-worth of rap-style jewellery — including TWO crucifixes.

He wore a silky white Dolce & Gabbana suit while Posh squeezed into a £15,000 corset-style gown by the same Italian designer.

Afterwards big showbiz names lined up to pay tribute to England skipper David Beckham and singer wife Victoria — who hopes to break into movies.

Actor SAMUEL L JACKSON said: “He’s the best footballer in the world and she’s really beautiful.”

Singer BEYONCE said: “The guy’s my hero. I think he’s absolutely gorgeous. Everyone is smitten with Becks and Posh.”

Movie legend HARRISON FORD — there with girlfriend Calista Flockhart — said: “They’re a nice couple and he’s so talented.”

Film director GEORGE LUCAS said: “He’s an amazingly talented guy. She’s very beautiful.”

Fashion guru STEVEN COJOCARU, of People magazine, said: “That was the most phenomenal entrance I have ever seen. They are sooooo Hollywood — so glam and over-the-top. 

“They are the new Ben Affleck and J-Lo. They were just so amazing — totally tasteless but glam and so bling, bling, bling.”

Manchester United star Becks, 28, and Victoria, 29, were at the bash to present a gong for the Best Transatlantic Newcomer.

They gave the award to bad boy Irish actor Colin Farrell who first went to shake Becks’ injured hand.

Then he playfully snapped his fingers and planted a smacker on Posh as embarrassed Becks backed away.

Posh — who has been recording in New York with rap stars for a new album — told The Sun she wants to move into films. 

She said: “I’m enjoying what I’m doing now, but I would love to be in movies.” 

A close pal added: “She’s in talks to star in a musical. It’s a pretty big deal. It’s early days, but she’s very excited.

“She studied singing and dancing at stage school and when she saw Catherine Zeta Jones in Chicago she thought, ‘I could do that’.”

After the ceremony at the Shrine Auditorium, Posh and Becks headed for a party hosted by rapper P Diddy.

First they stopped at a bash thrown by Justin Timberlake — but their glamorous image slipped when Posh’s sister Louise ran in with a McDonald’s takeaway for them.
