Growing
Up As Chris Kirkpatrick's Daughter
Teenager; Part II
My parents
had a rule that I couldn't date until I was seventeen. I went on my
first date a few days after I turned seventeen. Daddy of
course was overprotective, and drilled my date. Even though he know
him, very well, it was Justin's son, Conner. Who happens to be the only
guy I ever did date. "
'Kota if you need anything call and I'll come and get you." Daddy
said. "I'll
be fine Dad." I kissed his cheek. "I'll
have her home by eleven, Chris." Conner said. "Okay
if you don't you're going to be in trouble." "We're
leaving now, Daddy. I love you." "I
love you too 'Kota." When I
got home, Daddy was on the couch, just waiting. He asked me about a
million questions before I was allowed to go to bed. Daddy was very
overprotective. Prom Night.
Daddy was a nervous wreck. It was pretty funny actually, seeing him
pace my bedroom, and giving me a lecture. He wanted to chaperone the
whole deal, but Mom persuaded him not to. Conner
was my date, he had to take off of his tour to go with me to my prom.
Daddy was glad that he was taking me, but was still really worried.
"No
drugs, no drinking, and NO
sex." Daddy said. He was up in my room, lecturing me. "I
know, Daddy." "Promise
me you won't do anything stupid." "I
promise Daddy. Now can I go downstairs? Conner is waiting for me."
"I
suppose, but I want to talk to him." "Daddy."
I groaned. "What?"
He asked. "I'm
sure Justin told him the same things you just told me. Will you just
let us go?" "I
guess. But I want a picture first!" After a
hundred pictures, and Daddy lecturing Conner even after I had asked
him not to, we left. It was so much fun. I came
home around one that night. Daddy wasn't too happy about that, but we
talked about my night. We are closer then most Dad's and daughters are.
I'm not sure why, but I'm glad we have that relationship. I graduated
from high school, Spring 2024. Dad was sad that I was graduating, but
happy I wasn't going away for school. "Dakota
Belle Kirkpatrick." The principal called my name. It was funny,
of course I had all my family there, but all of my 'Uncles' came too.
Why? I don't know. When I went across the stage to get my diploma, they
all jumped up and clapped really load. I
was afraid they were going to start singing or something. It was so
embarrassing. "Congratulations
Dakota." They all gave me hugs. "Conner
wanted me to give this to you, since he couldn't be here." Justin
said, he handed me a white envelope. "Thanks."
I said. "You're
all grown up, 'Kota." Daddy said. He looked like he was about to
cry. Mom already was, and my brother's looked bored. "I
know." I smiled. Daddy gave me a big hug, and kissed my cheek.
"I
love you so much, and I'm so proud of you Dakota." That night
Daddy let me have a bunch of people over. As long as he was allowed
to stay and supervise. Which I didn't mind. During that following summer, Conner had invited me to go out on tour with him. Daddy reluctantly let me go, after I begged, even though I was eighteen. Still spoiled, I was loving the attention, and being 'Daddy's Girl'. |
