The Video:
I think most people will know the story behind this song already. Thi video is of the very first performance of 'No Matter What' (from the then new ALW musical 'Whistle Down the Wind'), live at the Albert Hall as part of the Andrew Lloyd Webber 50th Birthday Celebrations. Stephen had met Andrew through a mutual friend and when he went over for dinner, Stephen was played a few songs and asked if there were any he would like to record. He instantly liked 'No Matter What' and so recorded it and then Ronan shared the lead vocals when it was performed on this show. It was never intended to be a single, but capital radio followed by other stations started playing it due to huge numbers of requests. A video was made quickly for the song and from the huge public demand it became a single, a number one and record of the year 1998. This song is often referred to as 'Stephen's baby' cos it was his song to start with.
