A Change Of Heart

Capter 9

By:Kate

We left the studio and decided to just walk around the town a little.

We were both being really quiet.  Nick kicked every stone that was beneath
his feet, while I looked around, pretending to look at things, although I
was only thinking about Nick.

I finally decided to break the silence.

“So are you having fun?” I asked.

At the same time, Nick blurted something out.

“Why are we so weird?” he asked me.

I didn’t know if he heard what I said, but I didn’t care.  I wanted this boy
to explain what exactly he meant by calling us ‘weird’.

“Huh?” I asked.

At that moment my cell phone rang.  I didn’t even answer it because I wanted
Nick to explain himself.

As it kept ringing, Nick said, “Aren’t you going to answer it?”

“Well, I wanted to hear what you had to say.”

“Just answer it,” he told me.

As I went to answer it the phone stopped.  Ahh-gotta hate that!

“So how come you didn’t give me your number yet?” he asked, after seeing I
missed the call.

“You never asked for it,” I said.

“I didn’t think a man with my structure had to ask for it,” he said, trying
to make me laugh.

“Right.  How could I be so stupid.”

He than took his cell phone out of his pocket and asked for my number.  As I
told him it, he put it in the phonebook on his cell phone.

“Aren’t you gonna ask for my number?” Nick asked me.

“Now why would I want your number?” I asked him, fooling around.

‘It could come in handy, just like your number will come in handy to me one
day.  You just wait and see.” Nick said to me.

“Yeah, wouldn’t want to miss that opportunity of getting a Backstreet Boy’s
phone number.”

“I resent that!” Nick said.

After I put his number in my cell, I was anxious to get back to the
conversation that was interrupted by the phone.

“So what were you saying about us being...what was it?  Weird?” I asked
Nick.

“Well, why are we so weird?  I mean look at us.  Not even ten minutes ago we
were in there talking like we were great friends, and right now we are
avoiding each other, as if we never met.  Same thing as before.  After I
kissed you in the dressing room things were cool, but than we go to do some
shots for the video and we both go all weird on each other.  What is going
on?”

Whoa- that boy had a lot to say, didn’t he.

“I’m sorry,” I said, not knowing what he wanted me to say.

“Sorry for what?  I said it was both of us…it’s not your fault.  It’s..It’s
just…..I don’t know-I just was wondering if you felt that way, too.” He
said, starting to regret what he told me because he was starting to feel a
little embarrassed.

“No I understand what you are saying.  In fact, I was wondering why we were
like that, too.” I told him.

“Really?” he asked, surprised.

“Well, yeah.  I mean we get so awkward on each other, why can’t we just act
normal all the time,” I said.

“You see that’s what I thought.  But than I was thinking-“

“Whoa-wait till the boys here about how much you were thinking.  They will
be amazed!” I said, interrupting him.

He looked at me, and I quickly said, “Sorry.  Go on.”

He smiled and continued.  “I was just thinking about how we both get awkward
like that TOGETHER so basically it is just one more thing that we have in
common, ya know?”

“You always know how to turn things around and make them positive, Nick,” I
told him.

“But do you get what I’m saying?” he asked.

“Yeah defiantly.” I said.

He stopped walking and turned to face me, face to face.  He grabbed both of
my hands with his and said, “That’s why we should promise each other to
never go weird on each other like that again.”

“Ok,” I said.

“Ok, so it’s a promise?” Nick asked me.

“It’s no promise, but I will really try,” I said.

He looked at me with puppy dog eyes that were just soooo cute!

“What?” I said, referring to his puppy eyes, “You’re just so intimidating
that I can’t help the way I feel and act,”

“I am NOT intimidating,” he whined.

“Intimidating in the means of your great looks of course,” I put it in that
way, so he would agree with me.

“Well, since you put it that way…” He smiled.

Bingo!  Told you I knew he would agree with me if I just threw in some
compliments here and there about him.

“Alright, so it’s official.  We will never go weird-or atleast try never to-
go weird on each other again.”

“Right,” I said, nodding my head.

“Well now that we got that covered, how bout we finish our walk,” Nick said.

I nodded as he let go of one of my hands of the two he was still holding,
and we continued to walk down the street, still with one of my hands
intertwined into his.  He wasn’t letting go, and as far as I was concerned,
I wasn’t going to let ago either.

Talk about that boy being smooth.
