CHAPTER 15

“Ok right here,” I told Nick, since he didn’t remember where I lived.

“Dude, I get here with my eyes close,” Nick said.

“Yeah and that’s why you almost got off the wrong exit, right?”

“I was just testing to see if you knew where you were,” he said.

I shook my head laughing.

“Now it’s right here, pull in over there,” I said, as we pulled up to my
apartment.

Nick and I got out of the car and I went over to his side.

“Damn, I guess we REALLY have to say good bye now,” Nick said, shuffling his
feet.

“Well, you can come in if you want,” I offered.

“Yeah right, so I can fall asleep again and miss my flight in the morning to
New York?  Really though, I would but I told Kevin I would be back for our
group meeting,” Nick said.

“Oh…” I said, disappointed.

“I wish I could, though.  Really,” Nick said, making sure I knew he really
wanted to stay.

“Nah I understand.  But really- you better call me,” I told him.

“Hey what’s with the guys calling all the time.  Why can’t the girls always
be the ones to call the guys first?” He asked me.

“I don’t know, but I’ll call you if you want,” I told him.

“Well, that’s no fun.  You can’t just tell me you will call cause than it
won’t be a surprise,” Nick said.

“Nick, you are the weirdest boy I know,” I told him.

Nick ignored my comment and went on, “I know!  How about we make a bet?”

“A bet?” I asked, questionably.

“Yeah, a bet.  If I call you first than umm… than you have to… umm how about
you have to chill with me next time I’m in California,” Nick said.

Whew, I think I am gonna lose this bet on purpose now.

“And if I call you first?” I asked him.

“Then, I guess I will have to hook you up with Aaron,” said Nick.

“Oh this is one bet I am gonna win now that it involves Aaron!” I told him.

“We will see about that.  But really, I have to go, I’m sorry,” Nick said,
with an upset tone.

“It’s alright,” I told him.

“Take care of yourself here in LA, aight?” Nick said, rubbing my cheek with
his thumb.

I nodded without saying anything.

Nick and I gave eachother one last hug and he kissed me lightly good bye.

He got in his car and that was it.  He drove off and I never knew if he
would actually call me or see me again.  But I guess I would have to wait
and see.

As I walked up to my apartment my cell phone started to win.

“Hello?” I answered.

“I thought you said you were going to win this bet?” said a familiar voice.

“Nick!” I said, glad to hear his voice again, even though he had just left.

“I’m sorry but I don’t know what I would have done if I had to give you up
for Aaron,” he said.

I laughed and continued to talk to him as I walked into my apartment and
sank on my couch.

I truly was the luckiest girl alive.
