A Change Of Heart

I was waiting outside yet another studio in California, not knowing what to
expect from this audition. Lately, I had been to so many auditions I forgot
what any of them were for. I was wearing my favorite pink tank top, with a
short denim skirt, and sandals I bought yesterday at the mall. I stood
there sweating from the heat shining down on me, and I was loosing my cool
of being patient. I was hoping that I wouldn’t end up as an extra this time
because I was sick of never getting a speaking role! After waiting almost 2
hours in line, I was finally close to the front.

“Summer Maloney!” the one guy called.

It’s about time! I thought.

I walked into the room and no more than 10 minutes later I walked out of the
audition room. I was almost in tears as I walked out because I had to screw
up yet another audition!! I always had the tendency to stall when talking
when I get really nervous at an audition and of course I had to do it then!
This time, though, I had a reason to stall. When I got in the room, they
asked if I was ready to audition for the new Backstreet Boys video. That’s
right, a BACKSTREET BOYS VIDEO!!!! I was in such shock; I could barely tell
them my name let alone actually audition. So now here I am, talking
perfectly fine, totally screwing up my chances of ever meeting the man I
have only dreamed of meeting-BRIAN LITTRELL! I was so nervous in there that
I stuttered so much, I think they thought I couldn’t even talk!

That day I just went straight back to my apartment and sat home sulking in
ice cream and watching MTV. I kept thinking about how I am going to pursue
my dream of being an actress if I can’t even get one audition straight!
Even though that bothered me, I couldn’t stop thinking about how I could
have been in a Backstreet Boys video! My favorite group in the world...but
nooo nothing ever works out for me.

I woke up the next morning with the spoon from the ice cream I was eating,
still in my hands, dragging myself off the couch and to the phone that
wouldn’t stop ringing.

“Summer! What did u do at that video?” screamed Carol, my agent, from the
other line.

Summer was in total shock! “What did I do at that audition? Oh nothing
Carol, but totally talk like I was two years old! I can’t believe I screwed
up another…” Carol than cut me off.

“Hun, what are you upset about? You got a part!”

"You are kidding?" I said calmly, keeping myself from screaming.

"Nope." she responded.

I couldn't keep it in any longer, "Ahhhhhhhh!" I screamed into the phone,
just picturing Carol holding the phone away from her ear. "It doesn't get
much better than this!" I said, trying to contain myself again.

"Do you even know who the Backstreet Boys are?" Carol asked.

"Do I know who the Backstreet Boys are?!? I only had a crush on them
since I was 12 years old, Carol!!!!" I said, amazed at how she thought I
maybe didn't know who the boys were.

"Than I guess you will be happy to know that not only are you going to be in
the video as maybe like a fan, or something, but you will be playing one of
their girlfriends." Carol told me.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!" I screamed into the phone again, louder and longer than
last time. I mean, of course I was excited to be in their video, what BSB
lover wouldn't? But to PLAY ONE OF THEIR GIRLFRINEDS IS JUST UNREAL!!! "I
can't believe this! You truly are the best agent ever!"

"I know", Carol replied, sarcastically.

She filled me in on the rest of the details, and than we got off the phone.
When I hung up, I quickly jetted to my room, to figure out what I am going
to wear tomorrow. Yes, tomorrow! They were shooting the video tomorrow in
Los Angeles. Way too give notice in advance, huh? I didn’t mind, though,
because I didn't know if I could even wait THAT long! Than I thought, Ya
know, I waited 7 years of my life to meet them, what is one more day? I
laughed at what a giddy person I was becoming because of all of this, but I
soon shook out of it when I got to my closet, realizing the limited time I
had to find something to wear.
