Q: Who do you see yourself collaborating with in the future?:
A: That is a good question. I would have to say maybe Pink, Gwen Stefani, Eminem, Ludacris. It would be cool to work with them.
Q: If you could do a duet with anyone, who would it be and why?:
A: I think Pink. I really like the new direction she is taking, almost leaving her original style behind and going someplace different.
Q: Do you find it easier or harder to write for other artists?:
A: Definitely harder! When you write for yourself you know what you want to say, how you want to say it, and the direction you want it to go in. When you write for someone else you have to adapt to them. There are more restrictions on what you can do and not do lyrically. Sometimes trying to figure out another person's concept and make what they want out of it can be difficult. Your direction might be somewhat different then how they would and also you have to make sure it is what the record company wants.
Q: Where does a lot of the inspiration come from for your songs?:
A: Basically life experiences, things I have gone through.
Q: I read somewhere that you could have either become a singer or a psychologist. When you write is it somewhat therapeutic for you?:
A: Yes. When I write I am very narrative and I am usually telling a story. Sometimes it is very good to get things out but also not only does it help me but it also helps others. I am not always telling just a story in the music but also someone else's.
Q: How long have you played the guitar and what kind do you play?:
A: I think six or seven years. I have a lot of custom-made ones but I play a Gibson SG , Phonoship, Left Panel, some custom made ones. I don't like to use my good ones for shows because I like to jump around a lot on stage and just get wild. I don't want anything to happen to them.
Q: When do you plan on touring the states?:
A: Definitely in the summer. If everything goes the way it should, the show (I Bet You Will on MTV) should be on five days a week, the record should be coming out, and the tour should be starting all around the same time. It should be a wild ride.
Q: What made you pick Jive Records, or Jive Records pick you?:
A: I picked them because they were understanding of my project. They were willing to let me do what I needed to do. I think they picked me because they wanted to get out of being pinpointed with just pop music. They wanted something different and new and that is what I am.
Q: Since Jive has such big Pop names, do you feel there is more pressure for you to have to do well? Almost, is this the standard you have to live up to?:
A: Yes, but I think the ultimate goal is to have the artist do well, to have that kind of success. But since Jive Records is kind of known for helping pop music get to where it is, they are trying to branch out more. You only have a certain amount of shelf life with the pop bands and it was marketed for them to do a lot over a certain amount of time. I think now they are looking more towards the longevity of the artist, someone who is here to stay. They are a little more relaxed with me.
Q: How do you feel about being put into a class? (Being classified either artistically or personally.):
A: I am really not too big on it. I am more about crossing those lines and looking outside the box. Overseas there aren't that many radio stations so it is all about the music. Here in the states it is much more commercial.
Q: What is your opinion on being compared to other artists?:
A: It just depends on who they are comparing me with. Sometimes it could be a good thing or it could be a bad thing. If it is the Backstreet Boys then no, but if it is like Prince or something then it is good.
Q: If you had to be compared to another artist who would it be and why?:
A: They say that comparison is the best form of flattery. So, if I had to be compared to anyone it would have to be someone that is a true artist. Someone like Prince, Lenney Kravitz, or David Bowie.
Q: Is there something about yourself that people would be surprised to know?:
A: I think they would be surprised to know that I can play tennis. Everyone expects me to be able to play basketball or football, I play tennis. I have been playing since I was eight. I actually wanted to become a professional. I was in Brazil one time and I went out to play. There was some people there just looking at me like I was only out there for the hell of it. Once I started playing they were really impressed. I loved it.
Q: What is your favorite quote?:
A: Dare to be different!
