Through Thick And Through Thin

Chapter Four

Katie smiled proudly as she finished singing the final product of last night's efforts, entitled "Through Thick And Through Thin" and dedicated to Alexander James McLean. She knew that he would love it. He loved any words that had a rhythm to them and could be sung. Katie took the sheet music and hid it away under her bed so that A.J. wouldn't see it just yet.

Her head snapped up as she heard a car with the radio on and loud heavy metal music blasting over the speakers. She ran over to the window and saw A.J.'s bright red convertible pulling into the driveway. He stopped the car and got out, humming the rest of the song to himself and banging his head in the cutest way. Katie stepped away from the window and started down the hall. She heard the key turn in the lock and bounded down the stairs. A.J. opened the door just as she reached the bottom, and she jumped into his arms, wrapping her legs around his waist and kissing his lips.

"Mm..." A.J. said. "Hey, Katie!"

"Hey, A.J.," she said in between quick kisses. She kissed him again, slipping her tongue into his mouth. "Mm, you taste good," she breathed as he stepped inside the house and closed the door behind him.

He tightened his arms around her and went to the stairs. "I missed you," he said as he started to climb the stairs.

"I missed you too," Katie replied honestly. "And I want you so bad right now it's not even funny."

"Oh, it's mutual," A.J. assured her as he reached the top of the stairs and went into her room. He set her down on the bed, and the two of them started to undress each other.

A.J. was just about to get on top of her when the doorbell rang. She groaned as he moved away.

"You'd better get that."

"Who the hell could it be? You're here, and I'm not expecting anyone else. Just ignore it," Katie pleaded, pulling him close to her again.

A.J. started to kiss her but then groaned and pulled away again. "Shit, I know who it is." Katie looked questioningly to him. "Kevin was going to stop by on his way to Linz's."

"Damn," Katie muttered, letting go of A.J. "Don't you move. I'll be right back." She got out of bed and slipped into her bathrobe as the doorbell rang again. "Coming!" she shouted as she descended the stairs. She opened the door and forced a smiled when she saw her big brother. "Hey, Kev."

He grinned and gave her a hug and a kiss on her forehead. "Hey, sweets." He noticed her attire. "Were you asleep?"

"Uhm...yeah, that's it. I was asleep."

Kevin raised an eyebrow.

"Okay, A.J.'s upstairs," Katie admitted. "Bye!"

"You know what? Maybe I'll come in and--"

"Oh no, you don't!" Katie replied cheerfully, pushing him back out. "Hey, what are you and Linz doing tomorrow night? Maybe the four of us can go out or something," Katie suggested.

Kevin sighed. "Okay, I'll ask her."

"Great!" Katie smiled and kissed him quickly. "Love you. Bye!"

"Bye, Katie."

She closed the door and sighed with relief. She felt bad about blowing him off, but A.J. had been there first, and besides, Kevin was probably aching to get home to Linz just as much as she was aching to get with A.J. She quickly ascended the stairs and found the bedroom empty. She groaned. "A.J...he's gone!"

No answer.

"Alex, come on, this isn't funny. I'm really turned on right now!" she complained.

A pair of hands covered her eyes from behind. "Guess who?" a low voice with a British accent whispered in her ear.

"Johnny Suede?!" She pulled off his hands and slapped him upside the head. "Get the hell out of my house!"

A.J./Johnny smirked and lunged for her, pinning her down on the bed and kissing her passionately.

"Then again, maybe you can stay," she murmured as he untied her bathrobe and pulled it off.

Linz pulled the covers over her head as the tears rolled down her cheeks. She had spent most of the morning like that, crying and thinking about what had happened. She was actually kind of glad that she wouldn't be seeing Kevin for another two weeks. Yeah, she missed him, but it would give her time to get herself together.

Linz moaned and walked into the bathroom, grimacing when she saw her puffy red eyes in the mirror. She splashed some water on her face and dried it. Time to get my mind off of this, she decided, walking downstairs and plopping down on the couch. She was just reaching for the remote when the doorbell rang. She frowned and walked over to the front door.

As soon as she opened it, strong arms pulled her up against a warm body, and lips were pressed against hers. She pulled away and her eyebrows shot up when she saw Kevin smiling at her.

"Surprise!" Kevin exclaimed.

She smiled weakly. "But it's not my birthday."

Kevin laughed and kissed her again. "I lied about the show being moved. It's tonight, I just wanted to surprise you."

"Well, you succeeded," Linz replied with a funny little laugh that Kevin had never heard before as the two of them walked inside.

"I missed you so much, baby," Kevin murmured as he cupped her face in his hands.

Linz saw the love and trust in his eyes and felt like kicking herself. How could she have done anything to hurt this wonderful man who was so good to her? "I missed you too, Pumpkin," she whispered as he brushed his lips up against hers. She momentarily forgot about her problems as the two of them kissed. Kevin's stomach growling interrupted their embrace.

"Hungry?" Linz asked.

Kevin nodded. "Extremely."

She smiled and started towards the kitchen, motioning for him to follow. As she started to rummage through her cupboard, her eyes fell upon a bottle of peach schnapps. The drink that Carlos had bought her last night. Her shoulders tensed up as Kevin walked up behind her and rested his hands lightly on her hips as he kissed her neck. "Ohhh, Kevin..." she moaned. He smirked and started to work his way down her spine. "Kev, stop teasing," she murmured when he reached the small of her back.

"Okay, I'll stop teasing," he agreed. He turned her around so that she was facing him and started to take off her pants.

To his surprise, she pulled his hands away. "Kev, I can't," she whispered.

Kevin let her go. "What?"

Linz cleared her throat. "I mean...you have a show tonight, and you should get some rest," she amended.

Kevin frowned slightly and stood up. "Well...will you come and lie with me?" he asked with a crooked smile.

"Actually, I have some stuff to do," she said, scratching the back of her neck. "I...wasn't exactly planning on your showing up," she reminded him.

"Right," Kevin agreed. He leaned forward and kissed her lips softly. "Hurry back home, sweetie. I love you."

Linz looked into his green eyes and almost broke down again. "I love you too, Kev," she mumbled before hurrying out the door and into her car. As soon as she was around the corner, she collapsed onto her steering wheel and cried.
