Through Thick And Through Thin

Chapter Two

Katie sighed in satisfaction as she put down her pen and read over what she had written. A.J. is going to love this! she thought excitedly. She read through the words again, trying to find a rhythm. Her eyebrows shot up, and she quickly ran downstairs to the piano.

An hour or two later, Katie was finished wit the song, except for the accompaniment. She was about to get to work on that when her phone rang again. She saw on the caller ID that it was A.J.'s cell and picked it up. "Hey, baby," she said cheerfully.

"Hey," A.J. replied. "How's the song coming along?"

"Great!" Katie exclaimed. "All I have to do now is write the accompaniment."

"Sing it to me," A.J. begged.

Katie smiled. "No."

"Come on, please?"

Katie laughed. "No, you have to wait until tomorrow night."

"But I want to hear it now!" A.J. whined.

"You know, A.J., some people say that patience is a virtue."

"Maybe some people do, but not me." Both of them laughed and sighed.

"I miss you so much, Alex," Katie whispered.

"I miss you too, baby," A.J. replied softly. "I can't wait to hold you in my arms again."

Katie closed her eyes, picturing the soft touch of his skin against her own, and suddenly felt tears rolling down her cheeks. A.J. knew that she would be crying.

"It's okay, honey, just another day and then I'll be there with you," he said in a low voice.

"Alex?"

"Hm?"

"Will you sing to me?"

A.J. smiled warmly and took a deep breath.

"I'm yours, completely
I feel so deeply
You're my first thought every day
And I want it that way..."

Katie sighed in satisfaction and relaxed completely as he kept singing.

"My world is for you
And I adore you
I love you more every day
And I want it that way

"No goodbyes
Ain't nothin' but a heartache
No more lies
Ain't nothin' but a mistake
That is why
I love it when I hear you say
I want it that way."

A.J. heard the stage manager calling five minutes and had to stop. "Gotta go, baby."

She let out another sigh. "I love you, Alex."

"I love you too, Katie. Goodnight."

"'Night."

Linz sighed as she sat down on the bar stool. Going out dancing just wasn't the same without Kevin there with her. She half-smiled as a man who looked about her age came and sat next to her.

"Hi, I'm Carlos. Can I buy you a drink?" he asked with a smile that could make you melt.

"I'm Linz, and...I guess so," She agreed, feeling a little twinge of guilt but convincing herself that letting someone buy her a drink was nothing serious.

"I saw you out there," Carlos said. "You're an amazing dancer."

"Thank you. I've been dancing ever since I as five years old," she explained.

"Professionally?"

She nodded. "Ever heard of Katie Richardson?"

"Of course."

"I'm one of her dancers on tour."

His eyebrows shot up. "Really?"

Linz nodded again. "We're on break right now because she's recording a new album," she informed him.

"Well, want to try out your talents on me?"

Linz raised an eyebrow.

"Want to dance?" Carlos clarified, holding out his hand.

"Oh..." Linz laughed. "Sure." She took his hand, and he led her out to the dance floor.
