Kayla was studying a history textbook on her bed in her Orlando hotel room about three weeks later when the phone rang. She sighed and rolled over onto her back so that she could answer it. She hated being interrupted when she was studying.
"Kayyyla," Brian immediately responded.
She smiled. "Hey, Bri."
"What's up? Whatcha doing?"
She sighed. "Studying."
"History. I'm stopping in fifteen minutes, though. It's just too boring right now," she informed him.
"Oh, good!" Brian remarked. "Then you can come to my house and watch movies with us."
Kayla sighed. "Bri...I have to be at work early tomorrow."
"So do we," he pointed out. "You'll be home by twelve, I promise."
"Come on," he begged. "We can't have just us guys there! That would be way too much testosterone for one room. Pleeease?"
Kayla sighed. She could just picture his little puppy dog face. "Oh...fine," she gave in, smacking her forehead with the palm of her hand.
"Great! Kevin will pick you up in half an hour, okay?"
"Okay," she muttered.
"Jeez, you don't have to sound too excited or anything," Brian said, faking annoyance. "It's going to be fun."
She smiled. "Yeah, yeah."
"Okay, babe, see you in a few."
"Hasta la vista," Brian returned before hanging up.
Kayla was smiling as she set down the receiver. The past three weeks had been absolutely incredible. She had recorded the duet with the guys within her first week in Orlando, and the end product was truly beautiful. When she and the guys had first heard it played back to them, she had honestly felt tears stinging her eyes, and Brian had impulsively walked up to her and given her a long hug. The single had been released that Tuesday, and it had almost instantly gone to number one on the Billboard charts. Radio stations were playing it nonstop, and when Kayla had been in the grocery store earlier that day, she had even heard someone humming it and imitating her style.
Besides "For The Rest Of My Life," Kayla had also recorded two other songs, one fast and one slow. Tomorrow she would be recording a mid-tempo and another ballad that she had actually written herself. Those were the four songs that she would be performing when she was on tour opening for the guys. Her whole set was already choreographed, and Kayla was excited beyond belief. For the fast and mid-tempo numbers, she had a group of nine dancers, four female and five male, to perform with her. Since she didn't perform with alive band but with a karaoke track, she didn't need any backup singers, and she was kind of glad about that, mostly because it would have meant a lot more work for her and her coworkers. The tour itself started in a little over a week, and she couldn't wait.
After hanging up on Brian, Kayla tried to go back to studying but without success, since all of these things were fresh on her mind. Tonight she just didn't have the patience. Since she'd had less than a semester remaining in high school at the time that she left, she was just going to finish learning the material on her own and then take the final exams of the classes she had been in so that she could get her diploma. Usually she was very dedicated to studying, but lately she had just been too excited to sit down and focus because the tour was getting to be so close.
Slamming the textbook shut, she went to her suitcase to get some nicer clothes to wear to the little get-together. After
all, she didn't really want to show up at Brian's house wearing pajama pants and a camisole.
