"Yeah, he asked me to go to the movies with him..." Kayla was telling Sara on the phone. "...No, he just asked...Yeah, Friday...Shut up, you smart-ass!...Oh, hold on, my call waiting just beeped." She pressed a button. "Hello?"
"Hey," Scott said.
"Oh...hey," Kayla replied.
"You sound surprised. Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, I just didn't think that you'd call so soon. Will you hang on for just one second?"
Kayla clicked back over to Sara. "Sara, it's Scott. I gotta go...Okay, I will...Bye." She clicked back to Scott. "Sorry about that. So...what's up?"
"What movie do you wanna see?"
"I don't know...what's playing right now?" she asked.
"There's that new Ben Affleck movie," Scott suggested.
"Ooh, I love Ben Affleck!" Kayla commented.
"Now wait a second...I don't want you staring at Ben Affleck all night," Scott pouted.
She laughed. "I'll stare at you too...I promise."
"Okay," he replied. "Well...I don't know what time that's showing yet...but how about I pick you up around six thirty and we can get something to eat first?"
"Sounds great," Kayla answered honestly.
"Oh, I have to go," Scott said sadly. "But I'll see you tomorrow at school, okay?"
"Yeah, see you then."
Kayla hung up the phone and fell back onto her bed with a contented sigh for a moment before reaching for the phone again and dialing Sarah's number again.
"Yeah, that was my favorite part, too," Scott was saying as he walked Kayla to her door. Their date was just ending, and it had been great. They had talked through dinner and held hands during the movie. Scott's arm had also been around her during the last fifteen minutes.
They reached her door. Scott took her arms and turned her towards him.
"Did I mention that you look beautiful tonight?" he asked softly, taking her hands in his.
"Yeah...two or three times at least," Kayla said, laughing.
"Well I meant it," he replied. He pulled a strand of blonde hair out of her face and leaned forward, brushing his lips softly against hers. Kayla put her hands forward as they kissed, touching his neck and shoulders, and he rested his hands on her back.
They both looked satisfied when they pulled away. Their eyes met, and they shared a warm smile.
"Can I give you a call? I'd like to do this again sometime," Scott said.
"Sure, that would be great," Kayla responded.
"Great," Scott echoed. "'Night, Kayla."
She kissed him lightly on the lips again. "'Night, Scott," she said with a coy grin as she turned away from him.
She smiled to herself as she unlocked the door and
went into the house, catching his eye one last time before he
turned around and walked back to his car.
