Kevin sleepily opened his eyes to find green eyes that strongly resembled his own staring back at him. "Hey, sweets," he mumbled groggily.
"Hey, Kev," Katie said, smiling down at him. "How are you?"
Kevin groaned, feeling a searing pain in his thigh. "My leg hurts like aŚ"
"Language," Katie reminded him playfully.
"Shut up," Kevin returned, smiling back at his sister. "Is Linz okay?"
Katie nodded. "And Brett was arrested."
"Thank G-d," he replied. "What about me?"
Katie took a deep breath. "You won't be able to move for a couple of days, and you'll have trouble walking for a few weeks."
"I guess we'll have to postpone the shows then," Kevin realized disappointedly.
"Oh well, it was worth it," Kevin reasoned.
Katie suddenly felt her eyes brim with tears, and she took Kevin's hand in her own and pressed it against her cheek as the day's events took its toll and she started to cry. Kevin sat up and held her in his arms.
"Shh...it's okay, Katie," he whispered to the top of her head. "Brett's finally going to get what he deserves. He won't hurt us anymore."
"No, it's not that," Katie replied. "A.J. saved your life, Kevin."
"So did you," Kevin pointed out.
"I wouldn't take it that far."
"Of course you did. I could have bled to death," he said, rubbing her back soothingly.
Katie smiled through her tears. "But now I feel like I owe A.J. something, and I don't know how to repay him," Katie explained. "Especially after I've been such a bitch to him."
"So you're not mad at him anymore?" Kevin inferred.
"I don't know. I'm trying to be, but it's getting harder by the minute," she said.
"Katie, next time he tries to talk to you...listen," Kevin advised. "I think that's the least you can do."
She nodded. "I'll do that."
Just then someone walked into the room. Brian.
"Katie, A.J.'s looking for you," he said. "And Train, I wanna talk to you."
"Okay," Katie said. He quickly kissed her brother. "Wish me luck."
"Good luck," Kevin wished obediently, squeezing
her hand quickly.
