Can't Say Why I Love You

Chapter Twenty-One

Kevin's head snapped up when he heard someone shout his name, and he grinned when he saw Linz waving to him. "Linz!" he yelled. She ran into his open arms and kissed him.

"I missed you!" she whispered, playing with the collar of his coat.

"I know, it's been two whole weeks!" Kevin replied, making her smile more.

"That's too much," Linz remarked.

Kevin took both of her bags from her, and the two of them started to walk towards baggage claim. Linz linked her arm through his as they strolled leisurely through the airport.

"I love this look on you," Linz commented, indicating the backwards hat and sunglasses that he was wearing.

Kevin laughed. "I know, I know. Hopefully no one will recognize me now."

Just then three teenage girls started jumping up and down and screaming while pointing at him.

"I guess we're not going to be that lucky," Linz said, looking up at him as the girls started to run towards Kevin.

* * *

"Well, that was an adventure," Linz remarked as Kevin started his car. They had ended up being mobbed by fans, and Kevin's hat and sunglasses had been stolen.

He laughed. "Every day is an adventure when you're a Backstreet Boy," he replied. As they kept driving, he stared fixedly at the road while Linz observed him.

"Are you all right, Pumpkin?" she asked.

"Of course I'm all right."

"No, you're not. Something's bothering you," Linz said, touching his arm lightly. "What is it?"

Kevin sighed. "Last night, I went to A.J.'s house because we had dinner plans, and I found him in bed with my little sister," he related crossly.

Linz raised an eyebrow. "Katie?"

"No, my other little sister, Linz!"

"I see..."

"Look, I didn't mean that," Kevin apologized quickly. "It's just that A.J. has this habit...I don't think I've told you about it yet. He convinces himself that he's in love with a woman and makes her fall in love with him, and then he gets sick of her and dumps her. And it turns out that he was doing that to Katie."

"Wait," Linz interrupted. "How do you know that what he and Katie were doing wasn't different?"

"He was using his lines on her, Linz," Kevin explained. "It was the one about her eyes that got to her. He said something about how they look like the stars. And I heard him say that exact same thing half a year ago to someone else. Anyway, Katie's heartbroken now because she thought that A.J. really meant what he was saying."

"So you told her that A.J. was just messing around with her then?" Linz assumed.

"Sort of. She figured it out after I explained it," Kevin sighed.

"Kevin, no matter what you try to do to prevent it, Katie is going to get hurt eventually," Linz pointed out.

"I know...but if just seems so unfair that she got hurt because she's so sweet and accepting of others. That's supposed to be an attribute, isn't it?" Kevin replied as he parked the car in front of his house and let his girlfriend out.

"Even the nicest people get taken advantage of sometimes," Linz said, slipping her hand in his.

"I guess he," he sighed, unlocking the front door of the house.

"Kev, let's not think about her anymore," Linz suggested, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Let's think about something else."

"Why, Linsey, whatever do you mean?" Kevin asked innocently, kissing her lips.

"Why don't we go upstairs and I'll show you?"

Kevin was already taking her hand and pulling her towards the bedroom.
