Winter Dreams
Written by Torrie DeMore

As I sit here in my chair
listening for the bell,
my mind wanders off,
daydreaming of days spent
riding my horse,
drinking hot chocolate,
and playing in the snow.
This moment belongs to me
and only me.
I see snowflakes
falling from cold, gray clouds.
They swirl around me
as my horse prances
gracefully on the frozen ground.
The light but cold breeze
is exhilarating
and fills me with anticipation
for the coming holidays.
A family of deer breaks out in front of us,
startling my horse
who takes off at a full gallop,
leaving me on the frozen ground
behind him.
Suddenly I jump,
awoken from my daydream.
I look around only to find
I'm the only one in the classroom
and the bell rang a long time ago.
