Secretariat
Written by Torrie DeMore

The horse's mane flows,
smooth like the run of the white-tailed does.
Tail streaming like a knight's banner,
in a such a showy manner.
Dark, shining eyes gleam,
mysterious, like a raven's can seem.
Ebony hooves shine like the sun,
strike the earth with power, like a bullet from a gun.
Amber hide rippling with anticipation
such as a little kid filled with constant elation.
Effort pouring from every corner of the mind,
body and soul, he runs at the head of the rest of his kind.
Like an eagle, he can swiftly fly,
nearing the finish pole and passing it by.
Now he stands proud and tall,
like a true winner before all.
The blanket of roses placed upon his neck,
like a sea of red seen from atop a cruise ship deck.
He is the winner, name not to be followed with laughter.
He is the one to set the standards for all who come after.
