Defeat
Written by Torrie DeMore
My skies were growing darker
and the rain started to fall,
to add to the grim solemness
of the loneliness in my heart.
Defeat after defeat
and the odds were looking bad.
The odds of me finding that someone
were little to none at all.
Showing my love to those
whom I believed shared my hopes.
But my love-deprived heart
left me blinded and vulnerable, open to attack.
What am I to think
when my heart, all battered and torn,
can't tell the difference between love
and just friendly playfulness?
This is my condition,
as I lie with my soul wide open for all to see.
So will you let me win for once?
Because my heart has learned too well,
the bitterness of defeat.
