I was playing Oregon Trail with the 2G guys’ names, and decided to add some story lines in there. Here is my fictional 2G “Oregon Trail” log.

This is the story of what happens when 2G is out on tour in the middle of nowhere and What-Ev dumps them...again. Almost like the Oregon Trail, the boys find themselves just trying to survive in the old desert.


• April 1, 2002 •
All the 2G boys were dumped in the desert with 18 oxen, 25 sets of clothing, 1,980 bullets (for hunting, of course), boards and cloth (they build a makeshift covered wagon), 3 wagon wheels, 3 wagon axles, 3 wagon tongues, a guitar, 2,000 pounds of food, and $302.00. They hope it’d be for publicity.
QT was head of the wagon and decides to continue.
• April 3, 2002 •
A wagon tongue broke but Doug was able to be replace it from supplies with his handy dandy tire skills.
• April 5, 2002 •
The boys had a wagon wheel break but were able to replace it from supplies.
• April 8, 2002 •
They have reached the Kansas River Crossing.
QT decides to continue, choosing to caulk the wagon and float it across the river. Chad is quite strongly attatched to Doug’s leg, out of fear.
• April 9, 2002 •
The boys had a wagon tongue break but were able to fix it.
• April 12, 2002 •
The boys had a wagon wheel break but were able to fix it. An ox is sick. Chad consoles him and sings him “Every Minute, Every Hour”-repeatedly.
QT decides to rest the wagon for 7 days so Chad will knock it off and the ox will get some rest.

QT decides to continue.
• April 21, 2002 •
Severe storm. Jerry pulls out the guitar, tunes it, and sings Kumbaya.
• April 22, 2002 •
The boys have reached the Big Blue River Crossing.
They decide to continue.
QT chose to caulk the wagon and float it across the river.
• April 27, 2002 •
An ox died.
QT decides to continue. Chad refuses to move until the ox has a proper burial. Mickey threatens to do a “drive-by on his ass”. Chad moves.
• April 28, 2002 •
The boys had a wagon tongue break but were able to replace it from supplies.
• April 30, 2002 •
They have reached Fort Kearney.
QT decides to continue.
• May 1, 2002 •
QT found some wild fruit.
• May 4, 2002 •
QT took the wrong trail. Mickey takes the reigns, drives for 17 hours, and winds up back where they were the first time.

Mickey has the measles.
QT decides to rest for 9 days.
• May 25, 2002 •
Mickey is well again.
QT decides to rest for 9 days, just in case.
• June 4, 2002 •
QT decides to continue.
• June 5, 2002 •
They guys have reached Chimney Rock.
QT’s never heard of it, so he decides to continue. Doug says he’s no fun. He wants to see the sights!

They have reached Fort Laramie.
QT decides to continue, thefort is 100 years old and abandoned.
QT decides to hunt. Mickey steals the gun away and brings back 50 pounds from hunting, an elk. He claims to have caught it with his bare hands. Jerry spots the bullet holes, and Mickey changes his story to catching it with his “teeth of steel”.

The boys brought back 56 pounds of food from hunting.

QT decides to continue.
• June 13, 2002 •
Mickey has a broken arm.
Mickey complains of a sore arm from benchpressing Doug, so QT decides to rest for 9 days.
• June 23, 2002 •
QT needs some hunting done. Doug brings back 250 pounds of food from hunting. He has already eaten the majority by the time he shows the boys. QT pouts.
• June 24, 2002 •
More hunting.
Chad brought back 0 pounds of food from hunting. “That bunny looked so innocent!” Mickey gives him the evil eye.
• June 26, 2002 •
QT decides to continue.
• June 30, 2002 •
The boys lost 17 pounds of perishable food due to spoilage.
• July 1, 2002 •
Bad water.
• July 2, 2002 •
Bad water. The boys beg Doug to stop taking baths in the water so often, unless he begins to reak again.
• July 6, 2002 •
No grass for the oxen.
• July 7, 2002 •
No grass for the oxen. Chad tries to demonstrate that they can eat dirt so they won’t starve. He gets a mouthfull of sand. Mickey laughs uncontrolably.
• July 9, 2002 •
The boys lost 5 pounds of perishable food due to spoilage.
QT, the leader, decides more hunting has to be done. He demands Jerry do it. He brought back 28 pounds of food from hunting. He really did use his hands. Mickey just mumbles something about his own “guns”.

QT decides to continue.

No water.
• July 13, 2002 •
Bad water.
Mickey’s broken arm is well again.
• July 14, 2002 •
Chad found some wild fruit.
• July 15, 2002 •
Doug was bitten by a snake.
QT took the wrong trail.
He decides to rest for 9 days, for Doug’s sake.

QT decides to hunt.
They brought back 54 pounds of food from hunting.
• July 18, 2002 •
QT decides to rest for 9 days, so Doug is sure to get better.

Doug is well again.
• July 25, 2002 •
Time to hunt.
QT brought back 4 pounds of food from hunting. A bunch of fish, probably.

They have reached South Pass.
They traded 48 bullets with a hobo for 30 pounds of food. If a hobo had that much food to trade, they aren’t doing good.

QT decides to hunt, yet again.
Mickey brought back 250 pounds of food from hunting. A big buffalo! The boys enjoy buffalo jerky (quickly prepared specially) around a starry night’s campfire. Doug tells ghost stories. Mickey falls asleep of boredom, Chad is scared out of his pants.

Chad decides to hunt.
He brought back 1 pound of food from “hunting”. A sunbaked squirrel.
• August 6, 2002 •
QT decides to continue.
• August 9, 2002 •
Mickey has cholera (Hey, it was in the game).
No water.
QT decides to rest for 9 days, scared for Mickey’s health. The boys give him plenty of water from the supply. Chad cries. Mickey reassures all he is fine.
• August 13, 2002 •
Chad traded $3.00 for 20 pounds of food with a “secret source”.
• August 18, 2002 •
Mickey is well again. The boys all jump for joy, and go swimming in a nearby lake. Doug must be reminded repeatedly to keep his trunks on.
• August 19, 2002 •
QT decides to continue.
• August 21, 2002 •
Chad has a fever. Doug stays by his side.
They have reached the Green River Crossing.
QT decides to rest for 9 days. Chad falls asleep peacefully.
• August 29, 2002 •
Mickey traded 69 bullets for 30 pounds of food. Okay, he shot a 30 pound elk, but he thought of it as giving it 69 bullets...
• August 31, 2002 •
Chad is well again.
QT decides to continue.
He chose to take a ferry across the river.
• September 1, 2002 •
Doug decides to hunt. He sees visions of Chinese food dancing in his head.
This helps him bring back 250 pounds of food from hunting.

Doug brought back 250 more pounds of food from hunting.

An ox is sick.

Mickey decides to change the pace to grueling to “give this crappy survival game some edge”.

Jerry is well again. Chad hugs him. The boys swim yet again, to celebrate good health.

Five growing boys eat a lot! Hunting is a never-ending task.
They all went out and brought back 136 pounds of food from hunting.
• September 21, 2002 •
Chad somehow remembers Mickey’s birthday. He sings to him and gives him a dreamcatcher he made out of twigs and string. Mickey thanks him. The boys are stunned he could keep track of the days. They were all lost.
• September 22, 2002 •
They have reached Soda Springs.
They swim again, for six hours. Chad refuses to stop splashing Mickey. Mickey chases after Chad. Chad runs.
• September 25, 2002 •
The boys have come across a place called Fort Hall, but decide it would be best if they found a way out of the prarie lands and desert. They decide to continue.
• September 26, 2002 •
Jerry found 2 sets of clothing, 3 wagon wheels, 2 wagon axles, and 1 wagon tongue in an abandoned wagon.
• September 27, 2002 •
The guys lost 91 pounds of perishable food due to spoilage.
• October 3, 2002 •
They have reached the Snake River Crossing.
Before continuing, Mickey catches 12 snakes in his hands and puts them in Chad’s bed as payback for the splashing. Chad catches him, and sleeps with Doug in fear.
QT chose to caulk the wagon and float it across the river.

Heavy fog.
• October 9, 2002 •
An ox died. Chad mourns.
2G has reached Fort Boise.
Mickey breaks in. It is abandoned.

The boys are all in poor condition because of the lack of water.
They have reached Grande Ronde in the Blue Mountains.

and decide to take the trail to The Dalles to get some water.

Mickey is sick with typhoid fever. All the other boys are better.

QT decides to rest for 9 days.

He brought back 104 pounds of food from hunting.

Mickey is well again. He has been sick many times, but is no wimp.
He decides to continue, and Chad decides to hunt.

The boys have reached The Dalles.
They decide to continue.
Mickey decides to raft down the Columbia River, and makes it to the Willamette Valley. They all arrived in fair health. Tom and Liz are there with a search crew. They miss the boys and What-Ev’s sales have dropped without them. They welcome them back with a 1-month vacation. The boys are not reluctant to return home!
