In the fall of 1999, Alex was cast for MTV’s first original MTV movie, 2ge+her, revolving around the ups and downs of a manager, Bob Buss [Alan Blumenfeld] trying to put together a boyband in 7 days. Alex played the “rebel” of the boyband, Mickey Parke. Other castmates included Noah Bastian, playing the “shy one”, named Chad Linus, Evan Farmer, playing “heartthrob”, and Kevin Farley playing the “Older Brother” type. 2gether was fiction turned reality after their movie premiered February 21, 2000, and was a hit.
The mock boyband had such hits as “U + Me = Us (Calculus) and The Hardest Part of Breaking Up (Is Getting Back Your Stuff). They had numurous appearances and magazine features, and on August 15, 2000, 2gether: The Series premiered on MTV. The first season had 13 episodes, and the second had 6 episodes, one unaired. The boyband was featured on MTV’s Making the Video and the special Celebrity Dream Date in the summer of 2000. There was also a behind the scenes special in February of 2001 before the second season, called Behind the Awesomeness. The boyband was a huge hit, with everything from the movie to touring with Britney Spears, and the phenonmenon carried on in Canada and even Europe.
After a Michael Cuccione died, MTV turned 2gether downhill after their second season. There are still many fans and fansites out there, and many are fighting back at MTV.
