Chapter 3

My mum did drive me to the gig.  It was a promotion for MMMBop.  It had been number 1 for a week, and they wanted to promote it even more to hopefully make it two weeks or more.  It was in the shopping centre, or mall if you wanted to be American!  They tried to make it very secretive, so only a hundred people, if that, would come.  What they didn't bank on, is the thousands, going out into the streets!  I was lucky, because when I got there, the guys immediately have some security guards take me and my Mum 'back stage' which was a little space with panels up around so nobody could see what was going on in the back.  When I arrived, the crowd was nearing to the thousands, but they hadn't gone into the streets just then.
When the guys were getting ready to go on stage, me and my Mum were took around the side, so we could hear, and just about see.  The security guards were around them, then escorted them onto stage, where a loud shrieking noise came from the thousands of girls there.  We managed to eventually, sneak around the side to the front to join in with what was going on.  And in the middle of MMMBop, Taylor winked in my direction, and then came a scream from all the girls around me, taking a momentary break from singing along, thinking he was winking at them.
It was hectic.  Actually saying it was hectic was an understatement!  Halfway through a song called "MADELINE", the guys had to jump offstage and run because it was getting so hectic.  Isaac waved to say 'see ya later' because the crowd was fast approaching.  I had girls running past me, and other girls were getting trampled on.  I managed to escape with a bruise and a cut on my face, arm and finger (where I now have a scar) on my right hand.  I was one of the lucky ones!  What I remember about this next bit is just a blur, because a security guard grabbed my arm and lead me off.  I think he must have remembered that I came out with the guys, or one of them asked if the security guard could grab me and Mum.  Before I knew it, I was in the Hanson van with my Mum and the guys, with fans banging on the van
"Get the door locked!"  Shouted Walker from the front.  So I turned and locked the door - praying for my life !!!  That was definitely an experience I'll never forget!
"Are you OK?"  Taylor asked, pointing to my face.
"I'll live!"  I laughed.  I actually felt totally stupid.  It's hard to explain why, but you imagine:  You meet the boy of your dreams and you get a great big cut across your face, you'd understand what I mean.  "I've been through a lot worse.  My tooth went through my lip twice because I loved climbing and I fell, and I was mucking around in the playground and fell and ended up with a stone in my knee.  I had about 3 people, including my mum trying to put my mind off the fact the only way they could get it out was by cutting it out with a knife..."
"OUCH!"  Said Isaac.
"I'm glad to hear you're alright..."  Taylor said and smiled at me.
Some of the girls outside were probably wondering what I was doing in there!  I mean, I was stood in the crowd singing along as if I never knew them, and then, I'm in their van!  The only people who would probably be 200% sure that something was going on, were probably those who saw me come from backstage, get winked at then be in the van.  Those who thought something 100%  (They're fans and they adore their idols, and if they saw someone, they'd be totally positive something was going on...!) would have just seen me in their van,
or come from backstage, nothing else.
I then talked to Taylor and Isaac some more.
"How was it?"  Isaac asked.
"Brilliant!  I didn't know that song...  Madeline." I said
"It'll be out on our album."
"Cool.  When will that be out?"
"In England...  I think the beginning of June..."
"...The 9th,"  Interrupted Taylor.
"Yeah, and when you get time off school around that time, you could come and visit us in Tulsa.  We're having a little break before going around the world promoting MMMBop and the new album."  Isaac said.  "We called it 'Middle of Nowhere'."
"Way cool!"  I laughed.  We had to find a place to sit for a while until Walker's mobile phone went.  We had to go back to the centre because our car was there, and the guys left some stuff there too that they might need, like their hair brush!
"We could get another one!"  Zac said before bouncing around.
"But we can't get another cellular phone!"  Isaac protested.
"We could, when we become more richer!"
I never actually had a proper conversation with Zac, so I decided it was a good time.  But what would I say?  I think you did absolutely brilliant.  Maybe:  How did you think the performance went?  'How about both?'  I asked myself.  "How did you think the performance went, Zac? "  I asked.
"Quite well actually," he replied.
"I think you did absolutely brilliant, myself!"  I said, relieved at the fact I was having a conversation with him!
The call finally came, and we drove back.  Only about 20 hardcore fans were left, so my Mum ran and got the stuff with me:  Isaac's mobile phone, all of their hairbrushes and jackets and things like that, then we waved goodbye and drove back home.
"I'd love to do things like that,"  I said to my Mum.  I'd love to travel the world and sing to people.  It would just be so fascinating."
"I'd love to travel the world too, but I wouldn't be able to, unless you did..."  Mum replied.
"They said I could go to Tulsa to visit them around the 9th June.  When I don't have school of course."
"I'm sure I could get you some time off...  There's nothing much important on then, because you have finished your SATS..."
"THANK YOU MUM!"
MMMBop did reach number one for the second week running in the end!

At school, gossip started to make its way up and down the school.  There was this girl who absolutely adored the guys, and one of the rumours that got to her, was that I was dating Taylor!  I couldn't say anything, but in my mind I was saying 'Yeah, I wish!'  But she got in a snotty mood and stormed off, ignoring my existence before I could even say a word.
Girls whispered when I went past and even some said 'Hi' when we were passing in the corridor, even if I didn't know them.  Some of the girls who used to bully me began to act different and be really nice to me.  It wasn't natural!  It was as if the school had turned upside down.  I mean, when I had that fight with Gemma, I had a few whispers and people kept away from me, but that only lasted a day - this was every day!

As time went on, I wondered if I'd ever see them again, even though it wasn't much time, time dragged on because I wanted to see them again!
I finally got a letter saying I could go to Tulsa, and it took a bit of persuading for the headmistress to let me go, but the confirmation came, and it was only a Friday 6th and Saturday 7th of June I was going, and I don't exactly go to school on a Saturday, so I was sure it wasn't exactly going to make any difference, but because I was going, I had to do a project on Tulsa.
I went to school on the Thursday, and when I got home, I had to have something quick and pick up my bag and leave for the airport.
My brother could have come with me, but he said he'd rather stay.  Dad drove me to the airport and I got on the plane on my own.  I didn't want to go on my own.  I was nervous.  The stewardess made sure I was comfortable, and put my mind at rest slightly.  You see, the guys paid for me to go and see them, and it was a very small plane with only 4 or 5 passengers.  I was one of them and another was a very nice lady I sat next to, who was going to Tulsa because she was seeing her sister.  She kept me entertained the whole journey, and she got rid of my nerves too!  She told me about the war, and said that instead of being evacuated to the countryside, they were both were evacuated to the USA, because their parents knew some people over there.  Her sister stayed after the war though because she liked America too much, and was used to everything.  The lady, Mary - I think her name was, went back to England, then got a letter from her sister saying she moved to Tulsa in Oklahoma. She saved up for years to see her for 2 weeks, and now was going.  That made my story seem like nothing.  I told her I was going to see some friends who were pop stars.  I said about everyone at school acting very strange because of it, and she gave me some advice: 'Ignore them.  The only people who aren't acting strange are your real friends, and treat them with respect, or they'll change too.'  I appreciated it.  I even told her about wanting to be a singer too.
It was a very long plane journey, but when we arrived, I wished Mary all the best and she said she hoped everything would turn out right for me, and she hoped to see me on TV in the future!
