VAMPIRE HUNTER D is an elegant classic horror story told in an ages-old style. With characters designed by Yoshitaka Amano of FINAL FANTASY Fame, the story moves quickly and takes quite a few sudden twists and turns.
Set in the future, the world is infested with a multitude of supernatural creatures, including werewolves and vampires. A young girl, Doris, is in need of help to prevent her from becoming the unwilling bride of a powerful vampire. Vampire Hunter D steps in the help her, and the story goes from there.
This particular anime is considered one of the classics of the anime realm, from the same ranks as AKIRA, NINJA SCROLL, and so on. It is a tasty treat for anyone that likes classic horror stories with new flavour - a revamping, if you will pardon the pun. I highly suggest watching the subtitled version, for the english dubbing has made a butchery of the dialogue in VAMPIRE HUNTER D. the characters speak too fast in incredibly goofy or stereotypical (or both) voices that truly detract from the atmosphere and elegance that this anime was meant to have.
