happy moments on a sad september day...
(....from Carpe Diem)
During a time when so many people are filled with sadness, grief, anger and fear it is more important than ever to recognize and value our moments of happiness.
Although September 11th represented unimaginable tragedy--other significant moments were also experienced.
Someone welcomed a new child, full of love and innocence, into their family;
Someone heard the word mommy or daddy for the first time;
Someone passed a test;
Someone made a new friend that they'll know for the rest of their life;
Someone fell in-love;
Someone got a new job;
Someone had life-saving surgery;
Someone realized that they loved their country;
Someone celebrated a wedding anniversary;
Someone saw a spectacular sunrise;
Someone helped someone else have a better moment.
Yes, the events of September 11th will always be remembered as tragic.
But they weren't the only events of the day…some will remember a small moment of happiness that also defined part of their essence.
I don't know if we can ever go back to normal.
Many have experienced a new level of pain and sadness.
But we can create something better because we have a new measuring stick for valuing the experience of happiness.
Many who took the experience for granted, now know the moments are precious.
Ironically, our slogan Don't Even Think of Raining on My Parade sends a great message to those hoping to paralyze us from our Constitutional right to "pursue happiness."
It should be worn with pride.
May you continue to experience many happy moments…
