..asking Bro. Paul Smithson..

QUESTION:

" I am writing to ask what you have to say on the topic listening for God's word? I have been asked if I am listening to the voices from the Almighty concerning directions I should be taking in my life as they relate to the word."

ANSWER:

There are many people (and are sincerely convinced) that they hear voices from God, either with their ears or within themselves. However, the Scriptures teach that the means in which God speaks to us today is by His powerful word.
Also if God would speak to some and not others then this would make Him partial which He is not (Rom.2:11).

The Word is the instrument of the Holy Spirit. It is the Sword of the Spirit (Eph. 6:17; cf. Heb. 4:12). It is the means by which our faith comes. "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God" (Rom. 10:17).

It is through the powerful word of God that we are:
"Called" (2Thess 2:14)

"Drawn" (Jn. 6:44-45) note we are drawn as we hear, and as we learn and are taught.

"Freed" (Jn. 8:32) The truth sets us free and the Word is truth (Jn. 17:17)

Ps. 119 is full of passages that explain how it is the word of God that guides and leads us.
