RSMKO approximate notes: Weeks back, the lovely Martin Lewis gifted us upon the guest list, and had phoned Neil from L.A. on Thursday night. After hearing the rsm saga, Neil purportedly told ML he was looking very forward to our meeting. Go on! Friday night, Neil & Ira Kaplan appeared on Scott Williams' WFMU show with a great live interview, and sang 2 songs (Song In A French Accent, Evening Sun) On our bus trip in on Saturday afternoon, we finally see the WTC missing (RSM's first time into NYC since...), very spooky. Port Authority nearly empty. Windy gusts & gusty winds, walking all the way around Madison Square Garden trying to find subway to PATH (first time RSM has ever done this - having to go all the way into the city to get back into Hoboken) Maxwell's: veggieburgers dinner Mitch Friedman and friend arrive!
7:00 = Meeting Neil on a walk down the block (or, accidentally on purpose bumping into him!) EXCEPTIONALLY NICE GENT! subjects briefly discussed: Martin Lewis, Colliding Circles,   Pink Litmus Paper Shirt, more Beatles Out-Fakes, Beatlefests, 9/11, children's Book of the Month Clubs he's been doing projects for, Bob Moore, Jerry Lee Lewis, Eric Idle, Neil's and my websites, his recent trip to Nashville (!) to record, his new songwriting, him loving gigging with YLT, his first time performing in US since 1986, etc etc... ...UNFINISHED WORDS.

(introduces backing band, Yo La Tengo) Goose-Step Mama (several quick Rutles medleys) (solo kurzweil keyboard = amazingly authentic Beatles piano sound) Double Back Alley, Another Day ("silver surfer," middle-aged cyber jokes) Face Mail in the Meat Zone (new tune) Mr. Eurovision Quiet Talks & Summer Walks Between Us (different hats) Godfrey Daniel (Elton/Bernie Taupin parody) Shangri-La (scattered Bonzos songs, lotsa funny chat) Humanoid Boogie I Want To Be With You (for longtime wife Yvonne, who was back in UK) (many audience participation numbers, new songs) Song In A French Accent Stoned On Rock Evening Sun (japanese lute-like guitar) Cheese And Onions Crystal Balls (banjo country segment, white cowboy hat) Mr. Apollo Yo La Tengo sings Piggy Bank Love I Must Be In Love Let's Be Natural (Ira's haunting guitar textures) (encore) Ouch!
