“Ok, who else feels like they’ve just run a marathon?” Liz said falling onto the sofa. As everyone made their way into the Kingbury’s living room all she got were murmurs for responses. They had just finished picking up after the baptism’s reception that had gotten a bit out of hand, and were dead tired. Marie pushed Liz’s feet off the sofa so she and Scott could sit down and got a dirty look from not only Liz but Vivian and Abs also. “What? I want to sit down, alright?” she said trying to defend herself.
“I definitely don’t like you,” Liz said getting up and walking towards Vivian who was on the other side of the room. Abs was sitting on the smaller couch with Vivian reclining on his legs, so Liz sat next to her. The room was quiet for a while after that, Liz had only just met Marie that day but knew for sure she hated the witch. “Whose up for going to a club?” Vivian said trying to detract attention from the obvious. “Babe, aren’t you tired?” Abs asked leaning over to look at her.
“Not entirely, and anyways it’s only like midnight, this is supposed to be my vacation and I’ve had only moderate fun,” Vivian said moving and siting on Abs’s lap. “Come on, please?” she said giving Abs a puppy dog look.
“Oh no, she’s doing that thing with the eyes again. Now we have to go, unless we want a very pissed off Viv for the rest of the night,” Liz said.
“Vivian you know that we had a long day right?” Abs asked. “Yeah and?” she asked with an innocent smile. “And that I’m dead tired,” he continued. “What are you trying to say?” she asked getting up, a scowl forming on her face. “Nothing, I was just saying,” Abs said quickly.
“Ok then it settled, we’re going clubbing. Let me just tell the parents so they can leave Becca with Nan,” Vivian said exiting the room not letting anyone else object. “Pushy, ain’t she?” Marie said hating the way everyone always did whatever Vivian wanted. Her comment gained her another round of dirty looks. They all got up and went in search of Vivian, leaving Marie sitting with a very mean look on her face.
Lydia and Ryan, although very tired, agreed to go clubbing with them, and Scott picked a nearby club where he thought Abs and he wouldn’t get recognized. Entering the club they were met by the full blast sound of Limp Bizkit’s “Rollin’”.
“Damn I love this song, let’s dance,” Vivian said pulling Abs onto the dance floor.
Lydia walked to a booth and was followed by the rest, all of them were practically dragging their feet from how tired they were. “Where does she get all that energy?” Ryan asked looking at Vivian dancing and Abs trying to keep up with her. “She has her moments, sometimes she’s the laziest person I know, but others, damn she can get down with the best of them,” Liz informed him, checking out the guys at the same time.
A slower song came on and Lydia whispered something into Ryan’s ear that made him smile and whisk her away onto the dance floor. The only ones left in the booth were Liz, Scott and Marie. Liz finally realized that she hadn’t really heard Scott say much for most of the day. She turned to see Marie get up and head towards the bar, probably getting her 20th drink of the day. Liz swore that girl had the tolerance of an ox, not that ox’s drank, but anyway. “Why so quiet Scott?” she asked scooting next to him.
Liz noticed he hadn’t even heard her and that he was staring intently at something on the dance floor. She followed his gaze and saw it wasn’t something but someone he was looking at. “You know, no matter how much you look, it still won’t change who she’s with,” Liz said touching his arm. Scott finally turned to look at her and wondered when he had become that obvious.
“That obvious, huh?” he said looking back at Vivian and Abs who were dancing as close as two people were able to. “You haven’t said much all day, but I guess I know why now. Have you told her how you feel?” Liz asked. “I don’t feel anything, she’s seeing my best friend,” he said running a hand through his hair.
Liz just rolled her eyes and decided he just wasn’t ready to face reality yet. “Ok I won’t argue with that. But if you ever decide to come out of denial and need someone to talk to know that I’m here ok?” she said moving out of the booth. “I’m not in denial. I think I might just go home now, I’m not feeling too good,” he said after looking at Vivian who was now involved in a deep kiss with Abs. “I’m going to look for Marie, tell them bye for me ok,” Scott said walking away.
Vivian could feel Scott’s eyes on her and tried to ignore it by enjoying Abs’s arms around her. She rested her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes just relaxing against him. “You’re not going to fall asleep on me, are you?” Abs whispered in her ear. She looked up and smiled at him. “I have something for you,” he said taking out a small box from his pocket. “What’s this for?” she asked taking it from him. “It’s a present for your birthday. Didn’t think I would forget did you?” he said.
She opened the box to find a silver ring with tiny diamonds surrounding a saphire. She didn’t know what to say and stood numbly as he paced the ring on her finger. “Don’t you like it?” he asked a little hurt. She looked from him to the ring, truthfully she loved it, but it felt foreign on her finger. “No it’s not that, I was just…” Vivian stopped in mid sentence. She stared unable to believe what she was seeing. “What’s wrong love?” Abs asked turning to see what had made her stop. “Wow, isn’t that Marie?” he asked looking at her.
“Yeah and it seems she’s found a new friend. Where’s Scott?” she asked looking to where she had seen the group sit. The booth was now empty, she searched the club for a glimpse of Scott but couldn’t find him. “So she’s a bitch and a skank that’s not much of a surprise,” Abs said still looking at Marie and some greasy looking guy making out at the bar. “Shit,” Abs swore seeing Scott heading towards the couple with a fierce look on his face. “You better go and stop him before he kicks both of their asses,” she said pushing Abs towards the angry looking Scott.
Scott couldn’t believe what he was seeing, his girlfriend was having a make out session with some guy in front of everyone. He made his way to where they were and pulled the guy off her. “What the fuck is going on here?” he asked taking the guy by the collar. “Wha the bloody ‘ell is your problem?” the greasy guy slurred. Scott looked from the drunken guy to the now embarrassed looking Marie. “My problem is that you were kissing my girlfriend you git,” he said raising his fist to hit the guy.
“Scott don’t you dare cause a scene,” Marie said noticing half the club staring at them. “Should have thought of that before you kissed this grease ball,” Scott said dragging the guy out of the club.
Abs and Vivian ran after them hoping Scott wouldn’t pound the guy to the floor before they could get there. “Scott, mate, leave the guy his not worth it,” Abs said rushing out in time to see Scott punch the guy once. “Stay out of this Abs,” Scott said ducking a blow by the grease ball. “Come on Scott think of the bad publicity,” Abs tried to reason with his friend again. “Yeah like we really care ‘bout that,” Scott answered giving the guy another punch. Vivian saw Marie smirking at the guy on the floor and she realized why she had kissed the guy in the first place. “Scott listen to me, why are you taking it out on him? He didn’t know she had a boyfriend. Shouldn’t you be mad at her?” Vivian said. Scott stopped and looked from Vivian to Marie, they weren’t all that different after all. “You shouldn’t be one to talk,” he said letting the grease ball run back into the club.
Vivian stood frozen by his comment, he couldn’t mean what she thought, could he? “Is that what this is about? You know what? Do whatever the hell you want, I hope you and Marie are very happy together,” she said walking back to her car.
Abs and Marie looked at him suspiciously both not understanding what had just happened. “What was that about?” Abs asked. Scott sat on the street curb and damned himself for taking his frustrations out on a drunken guy. “That was me being an ass. Marie find yourself a ride home, because I never want to see you again,” he said watching Vivian get in her car.
“But Scott, he kissed me, I…I,” she tried saying. “You what? Couldn’t push off a drunken guy? You wanted me to get jealous, but guess what it backfired, because I was going to break up with you anyway,” he said getting up and facing the now crying Marie.
Liz came out to find a very uncomfortable looking Abs, Marie crying, and Scott glaring at her. “Ok so what did I miss?” Liz said noticing Vivian wasn’t there. “You missed me coming out of denial,” Scott said walking towards his car. He got in turned the engine on and sped out of the parking lot. “Abs? Where’s Vivian?” she asked.
“She’s waiting in the car come on,” he said. “Did you say something stupid again?” she asked running after him and wondering why Scott had left without Marie. “No! Why the hell do you think this is my fault?” he asked turning to look at her. “Well who else’s fault could it be?”
“And what may I ask is that supposed to mean?” he said stepping closer to her. “Nothing,” she said running to the car. Damn, why was she always so hostile towards him?
