His arm wrapped around her and she moved in closer just as he pulled her towards him. The small kiss suddenly turned into a passionate one, as if they couldn’t get enough of each other.
In the background Vivian could hear her conscience telling her this wasn’t right, but damn did it feel right. She then remembered the reason they were there at all, she pulled away and avoided eye contact with him as she straightened her hair that had become messy.
“We should go and meet them,” she said, getting out of the car as fast as she could. Scott sat there stunned at what he had just done. He? She had kissed him too. He fought the urge to drag her back, and ask her what it had meant to her, when he saw the passengers leaving the plane. He reluctantly got out of the car and walked towards the now hugging women.
“Nan, I’ve missed you,” Vivian said hugging her. She then turned to Liz who was giving her a curious look. “Hi Liz, how was the flight?” she asked leading them to the car. “Our flight was good. How was your wait here?” Liz asked trying not to laugh. Vivian looked at her questionably but brushed it off as Nan began to ask her questions about Lydia’s family.
Scott met them half way and noticed they were not carrying any luggage. “And who is this young man?” Nan asked with a tinkle in her eye. Vivian blushed when she looked at Scott but quickly turned pale when she noticed how icy his look was. “This is Scott Robinson he’s one of Lydia’s friends. He was kind enough to drive me here,” she said as they got into the car.
“Viv, you look so flushed, are you sick dear?” Nan asked worried. Vivian looked in the side mirror and noticed that Nan was right, she was almost bright red. “It must be the cold,” she said noticing Scott smile. “You weren’t cold a few minutes ago,” Scott said smiling even wider. Vivian gave him a sharp look and decided not to start an argument with him.
As they drove home Vivian answered the many questions Nan had about everyone and everything. Liz noticed that Vivian’s answers were very short which meant there was something definitely bothering her. She would have to talk to her about it later, now she was more interested in the way Scott was looking at her friend. From her seat she could see him through the rearview mirror and noticed ever so often Scott looking at Vivian. But not so much in a loving way, more of longingly. Which is definitely not how a boyfriend looks at his girlfriend. She had assumed that Scott was the guy Vivian had mentioned on the phone, but was now rethinking that. Something weird was definitely going on here, and she was going to find out what.
When they got to the house Vivian showed them their rooms and headed downstairs to make sure their luggage had arrived. Scott was outside debating whether to talk to Vivian about their kiss or just forgetting it. He didn’t want any problems with Abs, but he just couldn’t avoid what he felt for Vivian. A van parked in front of the house and out of it two men carried about ten bags of all sizes. “Good the luggage has arrived,” Vivian said from behind him.
“You mean all those belong to the two of them?” he asked in disbelief. Vivian instructed to where she wanted the luggage then turned to Scott. “Yeah, Liz doesn’t believe in light packing,” she said looking into his eyes. He could see the confusion in her eyes and noticed the worry lines that framed them. “We need to talk,” was all she said as she paid the men then walked into the house. He followed her inside not knowing exactly what she was going to say.
Vivian closed the study doors behind them and went to sit on the sofa. Scott was reluctant to sit down and looked from her to the door. “Don’t worry they’re going to take a nap for a while she said looking down to her hands. She nervously played with a ring on her right hand as she waited for him to sit down. “What happened today…” he started but was cut off by her.
“What happened today was my fault,” she said still looking down. He had expected her to be angry or even to blame it on him, but not this. “No Vivian, it was mutually our fault, well honestly more mine than yours,” he said looking out the window. “I’m with Marie and should not have forgotten that. And besides I understand that you’re technically with Abs, and since I made the first move it’s my fault,” he said sitting down next to her.
Listening to him analyze the situation made her rethink what she was about to say, but she decided it had to be done. “Scott it’s alright, you don’t have to lie, it was my fault. I think…” she began but stopped when her phone started ringing. They both stared at the ringing phone on her desk. “I think I like you,” she whispered. He turned to look at her and wondered if he had just imagined her saying she liked him. Scott reached out to turn her face so she was looking in his direction. “Did I hear you right? Or was I daydreaming again,” he said looking directly at her.
Vivian blushed and smiled at him but remembered what he had just said. “I wish you hadn’t heard me. You’re right we shouldn’t have forgotten about Marie, I know you love her so I won’t try and mess with that,” she said sadly. Scott couldn’t believe his ears here she was telling him that she liked him and he had been stupid enough to mention his girlfriend whom he could barely stand lately.
“Vivian I…” he didn’t get to finish is sentence because there was a knock on the front door. “I should go get that,” she said getting up and walking out of the room. She stopped right outside the door and leaned on the wall. What had she just done? What if she had just ruined any chance she might have had with both Scott and Abs. Abs…what would she tell him? She had to be truthful and just tell him she wasn’t ready for a relationship with him. The knocking came again and she walked to the door, she cleared her mind before opening the door but it was clouded once again as she saw who it was.
