*NSYNC Concert Cancelled For Good
Date: August 8th
Source: click10.com, Just Justin
Looks like those *NSYNC tickets won't be valid for a rescheduled concert after all.Channel 10 News has learned that Ticketmaster sent e-mail to ticket holders who purchased their tickets online for the August 2nd concert.
There had been rumors that the concert would be rescheduled for September, but Monday thousands of *NSYNC fans got the word that they would be getting refunds instead. The e-mail did not explain what the reasons were for canceling the show for good.
Bad weather forced *NSYNC to call off last Thursday night's scheduled concert at Pro Player Stadium. The rain damaged part of the group's computerized lighting system and put the stage crew 12 hours behind schedule.
Joey In Hospital with Pneumonia
Date: August 6th
Source: Tina, Just Justin
From Megan: I attended the Nsync concert yesterday (august 5) in San Antonio and the show went on with only 4 of the members present. Joey, unfortunately, is in a Florida hospital with pneumonia. During the time in the show where the guys usually read out fan mail, Chris had Joey on the phone as the Alamodome screamed "We love you Joey!" to cheer him up. Joey being in the hospital was confermed at the start of the show by Johny Wright, their manager, who was the MC for the night. Our prayers will be with Joey so that he will make a full recovery. From Kristin: Joey wasn't at the San Antonio concert last night (August 5th) because he is currently suffering from pneumonia - an acute or chronic disease marked by inflammation of the lungs and caused by viruses, bacteria, or other microorganisms and sometimes by physical and chemical irritants.
The remaining four members, Justin, Chris, JC and Lance, called him from the concert and the crowd screamed, "We Love You Joey" to him.
Supposably Steve, Joey's brother, has pneumonia too.
Johnny Wright, *NSYNC's manager, announced to the crowd that Joey is in Florida Hospital in Orlando.
Johnny also said, "Unlike some OTHER bands, we are going to go on with only four members and not postpone the tour." [Refering to the Backstreet Boys who recently postponed their tour for over a month after A.J. McLean checked himself into rehabilitation for depression and alcohol abuse.]
Justin, Chris, JC and Lance will continue to do concerts all week without Joey. From Anna: I just got home from the show and it's true, Joey's in the hospital. Johnny Wright announced it before the show began and said that unlike other bands, *NSYNC would perform with just the four guys.
At the beginning of the show it broke my heart to see them performing without Joey, it was really sad and I'm sure they felt it too.
During the part where Joey usually reads the fan letters, Chris had him on the phone from Florida and everyone yelled "We love you Joey!" He tried to put the phone up to the mic for us to hear what Joey said back but it didn't work.
JC said that Joey either has pneumonia or complications from a bad cold. Let's all say a prayer that he gets better very soon!!!
BTW, there was also supposedly a fire in their hotel last night. The news reported that everyone was evacuated except for the guys.
Justin's on the Cover of Hometown Phone Book

"These days celebrities are turning up everywhere, including on the cover of a phonebook. R & B great Al Green and 'N sync's Justin Timberlake turn up together on the new directory for Millington, Tenn. (Timberlake grew up in nerby Shelby Forest and Green lives in the area.) The phone company printed 29, 000 copies of the "superstars" edition, but demand is so high it has to decreee to only one per phone line. Residents can buy extras at $7 each, however, with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Timberlake's grandmother, Sadie Bomar, tells us her famous grandson has requested 20 copies for himself.
JC's a "Pop" Fan

*NSYNC's latest album Celebrity is Number One on the Billboard 200 albums chart after nearly 1.88 million copies flew off the shelves in its first week at retail. At the same time, the group's current single, "Pop" has dropped to Number 62 on the Billboard Hot 100, but that doesn't bother *NSYNC singer J.C. Chasez.Chasez tells LAUNCH that "Pop," which was penned by his groupmate Justin Timberlake and Wade Robson, is still one of his favorite tracks on Celebrity. "To me, it's the one track even on the radio right now that just stands out," he says. "It's so unique. It's got a mixture of everything. It's got rock guitars with a dance beat with harmonies and aggression in the vocals as far as, like, the chanting. I think it's just got an energy that nothing has right now."
As Big As Pop Stars Get
Date: August 4th
Source: bostonphoenix.com/, nsyncwebguide.com
It takes a certain arrogance to write a pop song about the simple thrills of pop music. U2 tried it a few years back with " Discotheque, " a cheap Chemical Brothers knockoff from their failed dance-music experiment, Pop (Island). Madonna did it last year with the brilliant title track to Music (Maverick), which laid to rest any fears of her popular demise with one question: " Do you like to boogie-woogie? "Now ’N Sync have joined the party with " Pop, " the lead single from their third and latest disc, Celebrity (Jive). " When your body starts to rock/And baby you can’t stop/And the music’s all you got/This must be pop, " sing the fab five. In other words, they like to boogie-woogie — and they know you do, too.
All three songs are giddy enough to charm despite their essential arrogance — even silly old " Discotheque, " which set a precedent for the other two by plundering the Eurodance underground for mindless fun way back in ’97. But ’N Sync have one major advantage over ’80s relics like U2 and Madonna, and that’s currency. Right now, they’re as big as pop stars get: early reports had Celebrity falling just short of the 2.4 million copies the group’s second disc, last year’s No Strings Attached (Jive), sold in its first week, giving them the two fastest-selling albums of all time. If anybody’s earned the right to sing to us about just how much we love their music, it’s ’N Sync.
And with Celebrity, they’ve made the first album of the current teen-pop explosion worth loving as a whole — not just for a couple of singles. It’s glitzy and mischievous in some parts, tender and heartbreaking in others, and sonically adventurous throughout. It boasts a top-notch list of hitmaking producers (BT, Rodney Jerkins, the Neptunes, Brian McKnight). And — in a first for the group or any of their contemporaries — designated songwriters Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez helped pen 10 of the disc’s 13 tracks between the two of them. You might be able to accuse Backstreet Boys of treading creative water these days, but not ’N Sync.
The BT-produced " Pop " is the first ’N Sync single written by Justin and noted teen-pop choreographer Wade Robson, a collaboration that proves to be a fruitful one over the course of the album. Jerkins brings the funk on the title track, which finds the boys lashing out at golddiggers and commenting slyly on the vacuous nature of their fame. Justin and the Neptunes address the standard boy-band issue of wooing a girl away from her loser boyfriend on " Girlfriend " as a mellow, live-sounding rhythm track sways in the background. Justin gets to show off his soulful (albeit occasionally overwrought) vocals on " Gone, " an aching torch song and his most impressive songwriting contribution.
Previously the group’s most experienced songwriter, JC gets second billing to Justin this time around. But he gamely holds up his side of the deal, and the one collaboration between the two, " Up Against the Wall, " is a lusty two-step tale of dance-club seduction that turns out to be the hottest jam on the album. " Now America will know two-step, " writes Justin to producers Riprock ’n’ Alex G in the liner notes. Self-congratulatory, yeah, but it is pretty cool hearing the biggest group in the world absorb a predominantly underground sound so successfully. JC goes from cutting edge to conventional on the McKnight-produced keyboard ballad " Selfish, " a worthy counterpart to Justin’s " Gone " on a disc that’s refreshingly light (for teen pop) on mushy ballads.
There’s plenty of other action for the kids, including the JC-penned video-game dud " The Game Is Over " and a guest appearance by Justin’s idol Stevie Wonder, who plays harmonica on the treacly ballad " Something like You. " In fact, Celebrity is so full of excitement that there’s not a single Swedish surname in the songwriting credits until track #7 — and the disc doesn’t even suffer for it. When dance-pop melody man Max Martin finally does show up on " Tell Me, Tell Me . . . Baby, " his vapid meditations on romantic angst seem retro next to the minimalist explorations that make up the rest of the album. The second-string Swedes who wrote the old ’N Sync smash " Bye Bye Bye " contribute the disc’s sparkliest Europop number, " Just Don’t Tell Me That, " but it gets buried even deeper into the disc.
Neither tune is bad, which may be the ultimate compliment to Justin and the boys. Prefab boy bands aren’t supposed to outgrow the system, but that’s exactly what they’ve done. " The thing you’ve got to realize/What we’re doing is not a trend, " sings Justin on " Pop. " It’s a scary thought, but he might be right.
*NSYNC's No. 1 in Canada But Can't Match Record
Date: August 4th
Source: allpop.com, Just Justin
If sales of *NSync's new album are an accurate barometer of the teen-pop phenomenon, then the prognosis might look like this: some weakening, but still strong. As expected, "Celebrity" debuted at No. 1 in both Canada and the U.S., with impressive sales that nonetheless could not match the record established by their previous album, "No Strings Attached".
In Canada, "Celebrity" sold 71,245 copies in its first week of release, almost five times as many as its closest competitor, Destiny's Child's "Survivor" (15,097), according to sales data compiled by SoundScan. That's down from the first-week sales of 104,847 of last year's "No Strings Attached".
South of the border, "Celebrity" moved a whopping 1.88 million copies, compared to the record 2.4 million set by "No Strings Attached".
*NSYNC's Miami Date Gets Washed Out
Date: August 4th
Source: livedaily.com
'NSync's Miami fans were dealt their second disappointing blow in recent months when the group canceled its Thursday night (8/2) concert at the city's Pro Player Stadium due to bad weather. The show had been planned as a make-up date for the group's originally scheduled May tour kick-off at the venue, which was postponed due to production delays.High winds and heavy rainfall destroyed or damaged "a considerable amount of equipment" that had been set up at the venue for the group's performance, according to a press release from tour promoter Clear Channel Entertainment.
About 40,000 people were expected to attend the show, according to the promoter.
Tour organizers are investigating potential make-up dates for the show. Meanwhile, ticket refunds can be obtained at the point of purchase, a venue official said.
'NSync had originally planned to begin its current PopOdyssey tour at Pro Player Stadium on May 12, but that performance was postponed to accommodate unfinished production work, and the kick-off date was pushed back to a May 18 performance in Jacksonville. Subsequent production issues further delayed the tour opener until May 23.
'NSync is no stranger to bouts with bad weather. Last summer, while touring in support of "No Strings Attached" (Jive), the group was forced to cancel a Chicago-area performance when high winds knocked down a portion of the group's stage.

O-Town Have "No Beef" With *NSYNC
Date: August 2nd
Source: worldpop.com, Emma
Making The Band stars O-Town, who are currently at No 4 in the worldpop-sponsored official UK Top 40, have revealed that despite a much-publicised rivalry, they have 'no beef' with 'N Sync.'The rivalry isn't between us and 'N Sync, the rivalry is between the press and the press,' insisted Jacob Underwood in an exclusive interview with worldpop at Virginia Beach, USA. 'They cause this stuff because maybe they get a more interesting story than they had last week. We have no fight with 'N Sync.'
Earlier this year, Jacob reportedly threw down the gauntlet to 'N Sync by threatening to reveal shocking secrets about them if they didn't stop dissing O-Town. And when worldpop met up with the new boyband, Jacob was quick to reveal what he meant. 'The secret is that they went through the same process that we went through when we formed,' he said. 'And if they're saying the things that the press said they're saying then they know that they're lying. That's something they can deal with on their own.'
However, O-Town said they are pleased about 'N Sync's record breaking success. 'They have a great work ethic and I'm glad that they made a success story out of themselves,' Erik told us.
*NSYNC Fail to Beat Sales Record
Date: August 2nd
Source: worldpop.com, Emma
'N Sync have failed to beat their own record for highest first week sales with their new album Celebrity. According to US sales figures the band sold 1.88m copies of Celebrity in the US last week, some 600,000 copies less than the No Strings Attached album, which sold 2.4m copies in its first week of release.Despite the relatively disappointing sales figures the band are streets ahead of former No 1 album Alicia Keys. Keys' Songs In A Minor album sold 202,000 copies last week and falls to No 2 while No 3 album Devil's Night by D-12 sold 122,000 copies. Urban compilation Violator is the second highest new entry at No 10 while geek rockers Cake have a new entry at No 13.
This week 'N Sync's Justin Timberlake pre-empted the poor sales of Celebrity by blaiming the US economy! 'People probably don't think we think about his kind of stuff,' he said, 'but if you really want to get technical about it, the whole country, the economy is down 15 per cent. If you put the calculations in to sell somewhere between one-sixth and one-eighth fewer albums this time that would be the equivalent of selling 2.4 million when the economy was a little bit stronger.'
Celebrity now officially holds the record as having the second best first week sales in the US. Previous album No Strings Attached, which has now sold 14m worldwide broke the previous first week sales record set by the Backstreet Boys' Millennium which sold 1.1m copies in 1999. Backstreet sold 1.6m copies of their most recent album Black & Blue in its first week last year.

"Celebrity" has Fu Man in the Bag
Date: July 31st
Source: fumanskeeto.com
Tuesday July 24, 2001... the release of *Nsync's sophomore album "Celebrity". And to celebtrate, Jive records hosted a release party on Monday July 23rd and FuMan Skeeto was asked to be a part of the giftbags. The guests of Jive and *Nsync all left with the cool FuMan gear (including the latest FuMan decals) along with an assortment of other gifts. So be sure to get your copy of "Celebrity" early as they will be going fast, and in the meantime, read what FuMan Sabrina had to say about the album:"You could only imagine, when asked if I wanted a copy of Celebrity - I had to say yes. I can't forget that the CEO of the company I work for IS Chris Kirkpatrick. I also can't forget that I absolutely despise POP music, boy/girl bands, dance hits, etc. I was raised on the Beatles - Marley put me through High School and Punk music helped my stress levels in college. There is no way that I am going to be able to listen to more than 7 seconds of an *Nsync song. I know this.
On my way home I slipped the CD into my car stereo. I kept my finger attached to the volume button so that I could turn it down in a moments notice when I approached red lights. There is no way I am going to be caught listening to NSYNC. But I have to be prepared for the water cooler discussions in the office tomorrow.
The first song was Dirty Pop, obviously I had heard it before… and if you haven't, I'd have to assume you live in a cave. I can deal with this tune… but let's skip it - since I am familiar with it already. I decided to give each song about 15 seconds … mostly because I live in close range of the office and if I dared to bring it in the house, my boyfriend just might call the whole thing off. Without dissecting EVERY single tune, I can wrap this up in a few sentences.
I drove past my house seven times. My finger came off the volume button. NSYNC is amazing. I have to find a new boyfriend.
BT Says Don't Judge *NSYNC On Sales Alone
Date: July 31st
Source: launch.com
While it appears likely that *NSYNC's new album, Celebrity, will sell 2 million copies in its first week of release--the tally will be announced on Wednesday (August 1)--many are wondering if the set will top the 2.4 million debut sales posted by last year's No Strings Attached. For a prediction, LAUNCH turned to electronic artist BT (Brian Transeau), who co-wrote and produced the album's first single, "Pop." However, BT said the focus should be on the quality of the album and its assortment of musical experiments, not on sales.
"Oh, dude, I have no clue, man," BT said. "I just think that no matter what happens, it's an absolute creative home run. I think that what they've done is so sort of punk rock it's not even funny. These guys have a lot at stake, and it's a really wise decision, like a long-run wise decision for them to make an artistic statement within the community of the fraternity of what they do, which is pop music.''
*NSYNC Seek To Impress With Skills, Not Sales
Date: July 31st
Source: mtv.com
When they were making Celebrity, 'NSYNC weren't fretting about how to follow up a sales record — they were too busy staking out a new sound to carry them into a future far beyond first-week figures, says Justin Timberlake. And besides, he said, it's just the economy that's to blame if the album's opening week comes shy of the 2.4 million copies No Strings Attached sold last year in its first week on shelves.
"People probably don't think we think about this kind of stuff, but if you really wanna get technical about it, the whole country, the economy, is down 15 percent," Timberlake said Tuesday. "So if you put the calculations in to sell somewhere between one-sixth and one-eighth [fewer albums this time], that would be the equivalent of selling 2.4 when the economy was a little bit stronger. But all that stuff, we really don't take it into consideration. ...
"We wanna stick around for longer than the first week."
Industry insiders predict that Celebrity will sell about 2 million copies in its first week, enough to beat out the second-best sales mark held by Eminem, whose The Marshall Mathers LP (2000) sold 1.76 million copies in its first week.
As they've progressively done with each album, 'NSYNC took greater control in the studio this time around and ended up writing the bulk of the disc's material — a result, Timberlake said, of overcoming any lingering insecurities by realizing their competence as producers and songwriters.
"It's one thing to go and write a song, but it's a whole other thing to go in and be turning knobs that you don't know what they mean, and now we know what they mean," said the singer, who also assumed lead writing duties on more than half of the album's tracks. "That's big to us, and that just comes with experience."
But it wasn't easy trying to finish the album while planning PopOdyssey, one of the most elaborate concert tours in history, JC Chasez said. "It's been a roller coaster ride. ... The last record, even though we had a lot of adversity or whatever, it was one thing at a time. You record the record, you promote it, you go out on tour, you breathe for a second. This [was] everything at once."
'NSYNC — whose lineup also includes Lance Bass, Chris Kirkpatrick and Joey Fatone — enlisted some unlikely collaborators to bring new styles to their sound, including electronica producer BT and red-hot duo the Neptunes, whose hip-hop-heavy résumé includes hits by Mystikal and Ol' Dirty Bastard.
BT, who helmed the boards for Celebrity's first single, "Pop," said he was hesitant about working with 'NSYNC when Timberlake approached him last fall.
"At first I thought, because our music is sort of polar opposites, it wouldn't really make sense," he said. "But Justin called me one night and said, 'Dude, we want to do a track like "The Hip Hop Phenomenon" from the U.K. version of [your] album,' and I was like, 'If you wanna do something that punk-rock, I'll do it.'"
'NSYNC enlisted the Neptunes for "Girlfriend," in which Timberlake, ever the heartbreaker, sings lyrics right out of a million female fans' dreams: "Why don't you be my girlfriend/ I'll treat you good."
The guys return to familiar terrain with "Tell Me, Tell Me ... Baby" (courtesy of teen-pop hitmaker Max Martin) and "Just Don't Tell Me That" but do the two-step on "The Two of Us" and "Up Against the Wall." There are also frequent shifts into R&B, including the spare "Gone," and collaborations with Motown legend Stevie Wonder and urban-soul crooner/producer Brian McKnight.
Timberlake said he was dead set on enlisting Wonder after coming up with the harmonica part for "Something Like You" with songwriting partner Robin Wiley.
"I said, 'We have to get him to do it.' I mean, that's the other thing that he's famous for — besides his incredible voice, he's killer on the harp. Somehow the record company got a hold of him and it just worked out. He came in and it definitely was a surreal moment. I was sitting at the board, and he's sitting in the booth playing the part."
The group has not yet picked the album's second single. "We'll listen to the fans and see which ones they like," Bass said.
"It's hard to pick because everything is so different," Chasez added.
After all its experimenting, Celebrity ends rather humbly, with the graceful "Do Your Thing."
"They were looking for something that could conclude the record and showcase that they are really great singers and they have amazing harmony," said Paul "PDA" Allen, who co-produced the song with his PAJAM partner J. Moss (Sisqó, Babyface).
"A lot of people think that these guys are just an assembled boy band, but they really studied their craft," Moss said. "In the studio, they show you that they are all true, talented singers."
