Cadillac Ski School
Newsletter 2000
- We are back on deck! The winter and early spring at Shawnigan lake have been thankfully hassle free. After the standard spring repairs recently, we quickly realized the next step would be to jam that ski boat back into the lake and get in! As in previous years we have a full schedule for the coming season. One of our regular events that typically draws a good crowd, is the annual trout fishing derby that was orginally Harv's brainchild a number of years ago. June 3rd is the date for this year's fiasco. This is a rain or shine event that typically runs all day and winds up with some dry land social activty later in the evening. (Bring your own golf balls this year.) Harv needs some pressure to headline this event again. Let's turn up the heat gang.

- THE CADILLAC OPEN is back for 2000. Oh yeah!! after being absent from our calender the last two seasons, this well attended, highly charged show returns to the Cowichan Valley this year at the Cowichan Vally Golf and Country Club on Saturday June 24th. Afternoon tee off time of 1:00 pm. For those of you that haven't experienced this event and are right now thinking... ''sounds like fun but I'm no good at golf, I'll just be holding the others back'' ....well ..just relax. This event has very little to do with golf and everything to do with crowds, cocktails, and crazy times in motorized golf carts all under the guise of a fully reputable tournament. The less experience the better! We have prizes for that category also.

- Our next event is a theme costume party/dinner. Saturday July 15th will see us host ''This Side of BAHA!'' An authentic dinner and ensuing party all with a mexican flavour. Prepare your recipes, costumes, and dig up some small goodies for the pinada'. And no, this isn't going to be a cheap remake of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly ...( unless you think we should try it.)

- The following weekend of July 22/23 has the Pro water ski tour coming to Abbotsford again. For those of you able to attend this event, you will not be dissapointed with the high quality show that the top athletes put on. The entire two day event is quite an experience for those that apreciated a polished event. For those of us that will be on the Island keep in mind we will be participating in The Annual Plasterer Volleyball Challenge on Sat the 22nd. Our gracious hosts I'm sure are already thinking of new ways to retain the trophy they manage to hold onto year after year. Once again a rain or shine event. We keep hearing...put me on the ''B'' team.. We got news for you.. that's all there is.. 2 or 3 ''b'' teams.. drink up!!

- This year on Sunday August 6th, The Cadillac Ski School will host our annual family day. This is the time to bring the family and kids up and enjoy a very hospitable Sunday at the lake. An ideal time to show off for the family or take them out for a lake tour. Always a favourite event each summer, this year should be no different. Look out for Jack Lidstone, always first in the dinner line up (a seasoned veteran who knows the ropes) Hope to see you all there.

- One of the biggest, loudest, most underrated events on the water returns to Shawnigan lake this year!!
- ''THE DEVIL JUMP'' is back for 2000. CALLING ALL JUMPERS!!..... On August 19th the predictable waters of the south end will see costumed skiers rocketing off the jump ramp and punishing their bodies all in the pursuit of top honours in many categories such as...
- FARTHEST JUMP
- BEST COSTUME
- WORST OVERALL FORM
- FASTEST RADAR WHIP
- BEST CRASH and many more... with our new computerized jump measuring system and floating grandstands (complete with hot dog dock) there isn't a jump event like it on the continent! Don't miss it! Will Tim Carr jump in 2000?

- AAARRGGHHH... ''HAIL TO THE CAPTIAN''.... we finally have to pay homage to an individual who has shaped our lives in a profound and touching way. This man has changed the way we enjoy our social time, he has helped on hunting trips, guided us home at night, and as we sit back in the evening and reflect on the days skiing activities he clearly helps us to see actually just how little improvement we need... we have only tapped into the top of the barrel of course, but for those of you that have been lucky to have had him spice up your life at one time or another, get costumed up, bring some grog and plenty of it!! On Saturday Aug 12th we dedicate this night for CAPTAIN MORGAN. For those of you that claim to have a bit of ''Captain memorabilia'', well well.. this would be the night to have your ''show and brag'' ....aaaarrrggghhh.............

- Well, we have made it short and sweet, as we all have a busy schedule, but at least you have a quick rundown of some of the main social events on the social calender for 2000. As usual the water activity goes on first and around all of the above, after all... we are here primarily to ski. (who said that?)
- Please get back to us by phone a.s.a.p. regarding the Cadillac Open Golf Tournament and the fishing derby. Any other questions on fees, costs etc. can be answered by giving us a call at (250) 743-5871
- Looking forward to spending some time on the water with you soon... Ken Rod
- P.S. let's here it for Rick Shaw who created the Cadillac web page, this water skier is dedicated to providing info for the masses!!
