Alexander James McLean is known to be the "rebellious" member of the multi-platinum, diamond, and record breaking group The Backstreet Boys. He was raised in West Palm Beach, Florida by his mother and grandparents. He never really did have a close relationship with his father due to the fact that his mother and father divorced when he was the tender age of 4. He grew up with a passion for entertaining, being in numerous talent shows, and landing small roles here and there. Leading him to meet Howie Dorough and later on Nick Carter. In March 2002 AJ saw an ad in the paper for auditions for boys to become memebers of a local group, he went and the rest is history. There meeting up with Kevin Richardson and Brian Litrell, signing a contract with Lou Pearlman and begining his journey to stardom as a member of The Backstreet Boys.
Throughout his career, the Backstreet Boys have released 6 albums, Never Gone being there most recent in 2005. This bringing AJ to super stardom and fame, being in the public eye and becoming a role model to teens worldwide. The pressure was on to be "perfect" but AJ never wanted to settle with what society wanted him to be. He wanted to stand out and be his own individual with piercings, over 25 tattoes, his own sense of style, and his constant hair changes. He was the wildcard, you never knew what you would get. This however, has not always been beneficial for him, with the loss of his Grand-mother he became very depressed and turned to alchohol and drugs for comfort to numb the pain. After coming to the realization that he was on the path to distruction AJ checked himself into rehab, was sober and clean for 2 years then relapsed and has since gotten back on his feet and has been sober and clean since, becoming and inspiration to many fans.
AJ McLean is the sweetest man on the planet and has been known to never say no to a fan. He loves to talk and his heart is open to everyone. Alexander James McLean we love you.
