DC SAMPLER #2 (Sept. 1984)
A free book promoting various DC Comics series included a prose work by Alan Moore and a picture of the swamp, but no Swamp Thing! This same ad ran in Comics Journal #93 and Comics Intvw #12. The text and illustration were used on the back cover of the 1987 Saga of the Swamp Thing trade paperback.
In the same month, the "Meanwhile..." editorial page that ran in DC comic books during the week of SWAMP THING #28 included Moore's original, much longer version of this prose piece. That longer piece did not end with the line "You should not have come here" which is what Swampy says to Arcane in issue #31.

DC SAMPLER #3 (Nov. 1984)
Another free book promoting various DC Comics series included a beautiful 3-page spread advertising SWAMP THING. The first page was shrunk a bit to make room for the indicia and was separate from the next 2 pages. I have resized and slightly color-corrected the complete spread to be viewed as should have been: Click the image below to download a pdf file.

Since DC SAMPLER #3 came out before SWAMP THING #37 (June 1985), it marks the second published appearance of John Constantine, (albeit in an ad, not in a story.) We all know where John’s first appearance was, right?
