Chapter 3

It was only after the third kiss that I nodded. Brian was thrilled, to say the least. Thus started what would be the most, oh how do I put this, roller-coaster-like relationship I’ve ever had. Or ever wish to have, for that matter.

The rest of the guys were less than enthusiastic. Brian had insisted on telling them bright and early the next morning. Nick and A.J. expressed their stubborn-ass opinions instantly, arguing that Brian was being a fool in not trying to get LeighAnne back. “If you just say the word she’ll come running back........What the hell is your problem? Why do you want to throw this relationship away?” Kevin just went with it, figuring that his cousin would figure out his mistake soon enough. Howie was happy for Brian, accepting the end of his relationship with LeighAnne. All in all it hardly helped a relationship that had been rocky from the start.

If the guys were not all that happy, their girlfriends had a deep hatred for me. They blamed me for the breakup, despite the fact that I had never met LeighAnne. They seemed to have decided to exclude me totally and utterly. Nick’s girlfriend, Mandy, had it in for me. She hated my very being. At least the other girls left me alone, completely. Mandy wouldn’t even give me that luxury. She made sure that her extreme dislike was known, every time we where in the same room. Any prayer I might have had of the girlfriends treating me like something more than pond scum was utterly shattered by Miss WillaFord. Even Nick, who would rather have Brian dating some two-timing slut than me, knew that what Mandy was doing was going way out of hand. Yet he made no move to stop her.

In conclusion, it was turning out to be one hell of a trip.

* * * * *

“Yo, Cat. We’re headin’ to the store, wanna come?” Brian called to me, standing beside his blue BMW. Kevin and Kristen had come over to Brian’s house for whatever reason. They had finally decided to go with Brian to a near-by mini mart to pick up some stuff.

“Naw, ya’ll go ahead without me.” The thought of being alone without being snubbed or having the word “slut” mouthed to me every time Kev’s or Brian’s back was turned was too sweet to pass up. Besides, if I sat in the same car as that rotten little bitch for more than five seconds I’d kill her. Kristen was almost as bad as Mandy. Not quite, at least. Mandy would straight out call me a whore, while Kristen had enough manners to simply mouth her hatred when her boyfriend and his cousin weren’t looking. They actually had an alliance, contrary to Brian’s consoling that it was all in my mind. The Take Alyssa Down Alliance, or TADA. It was enough to make one sick.

I headed towards my room, I had started living with him soon after Brian returned from the Bahamas, having every intention of getting online and drowning my sorrows in slow music. I sighed, enjoying the sorrowful music, wondering how long my peace would last.

Just let me be TADA free for a little while. Just don’t let her interrupt this song, I love this song. I hoped silently. As my favorite part approached, I stopped typing, nearly stopped breathing. The first notes had vanished only moments ago when an incredibly annoying voice sang out, completely destroying the beauty of the song.

“Oooooohhh, Ccccaaaattt? Cat, deary, do come out. I haven’t seen you in ages. Come along dahling, Nicky has been positively dying to see you. Isn’t that right, baby?”

Mandy has entered the building. Please keep all hands and arms inside the car at all times. Please do not feed Mandy. She’s very excitable and may bite when agitated. Use caution when approaching, can turn on you quickly, and is quite talented in the way of verbal abuse. That is only one of her many talents. Ms. WillaFord may also flirt with your boyfriend when her only intention is to get him, away from you. Scientific name, Eslutus Bitchus. Next on our tour of dangerous mammals.......

I was snapped back to reality by Mandy’s incredibly annoying voice. I slowly stood up, unsure whether to sigh or grit my teeth in unchecked annoyance. I made my decision quickly, cementing my chompers together so that I didn’t bite Mandy’s cute little nose off.

I made my way downstairs, praying silently that I could refrain from killing Mandy and her little friends for five minutes.

However, fate decided to mess with my head that day. For not only was I to put up with Kevin, Mandy, Kristen, and Nick, but the rest of TADA had made a surprise appearance. And of course A.J. and D decided to show up. I sighed, this was gonna get ugly. At least I had Howie and Brian on my side. Well, Howie any ways.

“Good afternoon, girls. Guys.” I nodded to each in turn, ignoring the gruesome looks that were returned. “What is the reason for this splendid reunion?” my voice was dripping in sarcasm. Brian cleared his throat, though out of embarrassment or to warn me I couldn’t decide.

Thankfully, Kevin spoke up. “Well, A.J., Howie, Nick, and I are heading back to the Bahamas to get some more work done on the album. Since Brian and the girls weren’t coming, we, I, thought it would be nice if we all got together before we left.”

“Oh is that all? Really, we should get together more often. I have missed your beautiful faces. It’s been over a month since Brian dragged me to a TADA fest. And ya’ll know how much I love being ignored and ridiculed.” I came back, had my voice been any sweeter I would have choked.

Personality change. Brian had gone from slight embarrassment to extreme embarrassment. Not to mention the fact that he was very pissed. He had every reason to be, of course. I wasn’t helping matters, you could even say I’d gone over the line. Perhaps I had, but what did that matter to me? I’d had my share of being decent, it was my turn to strike back. Brian just didn’t understand that. He assumed that I would instantly fit into the girlfriends clique. Unfortunately, he had forgotten quite a bit about me during our separation. For one, I didn’t back down very quickly.

“Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea......” Even Nick was surprised by my outburst. The girls looked as though they were ready to kill me, and my little dog, too.

“Do you mind shutting up your girlfriend before I slap her myself?” A.J. was talking to Brian, but was glaring at me. Amanda was faking extreme surprise and was pretending to be quite offended by my comments. I’d give her something to be offended about.

“Ooh, did I step on your little bitty ego?” Okay, so that was crossing the line, hitting below the belt, and kicking them while they were down in nine words.

“Alyssa! You’re treading dangerously close to burning a few bridges here!” Brian hissed furiously. I looked back at him innocently.

“Oh, but Brian, I’m not ‘treading dangerously’ anywhere. I’m burning down the entire side. Not to mention the fact that there weren’t any bridges there in the first place. Now, if ya’ll will excuse me, I was in the middle of downloading a very nice song before I was rudely interrupted. Have fun, don’t walk in front of any speeding cars. Or better yet, please do.” I left them with Kevin and Howie attempting to hold back A.J. as he tried to go after and dispose of me. Eminem could soon be heard as I blasted it from my room.

Yup, one hell of a trip.
