Taela slid silently into the shadows. Her form was slim and lithe, a fox with two long tails and large claws. She changed her fur into a deep blue, contrasting sharply with her bright blue eyes. She slipped from shadow to shadow until she found a decent spot to hide. No sooner had she settled down to wait then did she hear heavy footsteps. She leaned forward to see who was coming. The moonlight lit up her eyes, making them the only thing visible, and even then only to the sharpest of eyes. Upon recognizing the approaching mutant, Taela drew back into the shadow.
Logan sniffed as he stalked down the hall. He growled when he picked up Taela's scent.
"Pokemon? Shouldn't you be in bed?" Taela sighed. She slipped out of her hiding spot and sat in a square of moonlight shining into the window. She looked like a shadow as she sat there.
"I could ask you the same thing." She asked quietly. Logan glared at her. Unfazed, she glared back.
"I don't say if you don't say."
"Deal." They both then went their separate ways. Logan stalked off down the hallway while Taela slid back into the shadows and off down another hallway.
'Wolfie.... he always manages to spot me. Bloody ruined that hiding spot.' Taela thought as she slid into a deep shadow under a table just outside the kitchen. She sat there for a while, watching the clouds shape the moonlight as it came in the windows. She listened. At first she heard nothing, but then an echo of an opening door caught her attention. She heard an irregular set of footsteps, almost like the person was hopping.
'Toad...' Taela thought. She got up from laying down into a crouching position. She watched him as he came down the hall and went into the kitchen, obviously having woken up thirsty. She peeked around the corner when the fridge opened.
"Soda....water....milk....ohh... what's this? 'Taela's Iced Tea...paws off!' Well, she won't miss a little bit...." Taela pinned her ears back as she watched Toad pour a little bit of her iced tea into a cup and then put it back. Toad drained the glass and tossed it haphazardly into the sink. He seemed to like it, but Taela didn't care at this point.
'So, that's who's been snitchin' my tea.' She thought. She slid back into the shadow with a slight growl. As he left the kitchen, Toad caught the end of her growl. He jumped back in surprise, and looked around. Taela sat in the shadow, perfectly hidden. Toad nervously headed back to his room.
Taela slid out of the shadow silently.
'How best to punish him for this crime? Cerberus or a hellhound? Medusa....no, I pulled her on Guido... perhaps just me...nah. Ah, yes... that's perfect!' She thought. As she slipped into the dark shadow that lined the hall, she shifted forms again. This time she took one of the most hideous forms she could. She was humanoid, but still moved on all fours. She didn't appear to have skin, really, and her eyes vanished. A long tongue that resembled Toad's slipped out from between sharply pointed teeth. She had become a Licker, a mutated, vicious creature from the Resident Evil games. She dashed ahead of Toad, who caught the sound of another growl and her new, much larger claws on the floor.
"W-who's there?" He called out in a frightened voice. He spun around, facing away from Taela as she stalked out of the shadows. He turned back slowly, assuming he was just paranoid.
"I gotta stop eating all those Doritos before be- ......d?" He faced Taela, although he didn't realize it was Taela. All he knew was that he was now staring at his worst nightmare. His face went pure white, and with a shriek more highly pitched than what Taela herself could have produced, he spun and fled as fast as he could. Taela gave chase, delighting in the fright she gave the younger mutant. She leapt up and tackled Toad, pinning him to the ground with one large hand.
"P-please d-d-don't eat me..." Toad squeaked. Taela drew in the long tongue so she could speak.
"So long as you don't drink my tea again. That is my own personal brew made from a rare tea plant my mom grows. It's very rare that I get any, so next time you'd better ask." She then released him and vanished into a shadow before Toad could realize who she was. Toad lay there, heart racing, for a good five minutes.
"Tea....?" Then he remembered the tea in the fridge. "Dragonfoxy. I get no respect outta her." He got up and hopped back to his room.
"Although, that was actually really cool..." he mumbled to himself.
Taela shifted back into her dark blue fox form as soon as she hit the shadow, grinning like an insane idiot. She dashed outside and into the woods before falling over, bawling with laughter. She laughed so hard she started to cry. She was exhausted from laughing by the time she recovered. She got up, shook the leaves from her fur, and headed off to bed.
