EVENT REPORT - DAVE OWEN

I arrived at about 19:15, just as the Ranger was opening up the building, with Geoff Regan and the LAS 8 inch Dark Star Dobsonian. Jim Lawler had tailed us from the LAS Pex Hill Leighton Observatory, to ensure that he could find this relatively obscure location.

The weather was mostly cloudy, but we got a few tantalising glimpses of the Moon, in the LAS 8 inch and John Naylor's 25x100 binoculars, before 100% cloud cover closed in for the evening.

As we were looking at the Moon, Brendan Martin decided to go home and bring his 6 inch reflector. He was back within 30 minutes. Jim Stacey had brought along his 5 inch Maksutov, which gave some high magnification views of some nearby street lamps. Unfortunetely, that was about all it did see.

Other LAS member who I noticed during the evening were Graham Roberts, Dave Bentley and Dave Galvin.

At about 19:40, I started a 20 minute talk revolving around recent Sidewalk Astronomy events we had undertaken. This mainly consisted of displaying photos from these events using the LAS PC projector and Laptop PC.

At about 20:30, I started a 25 minute slide show that, starting from the Sun, went as far out as Saturn.

There were about 25 members of the public, as well as about 10 LAS members.

Jim Stacey was able to take some photos of this event which can be seen below:
