EVENT REPORT - Dave Owen
A very bad weather forecast persuaded me and Geoff Regan not to bring the 16 inch Sidewalk Dobsonian to this event. Instead, we brought my 6 inch f4 reflector.
When we got there, at about 19:25, several LAS members were already there, with telescopes. Lew Brown had brought his 10 inch reflector; John Naylor had brought his 8 inch reflector; Jim Stacey had brought his 5 inch Maksutov and Dave Robinson had brought his 4 inch f15 refractor. It was too cloudy to use any of these scopes, although the Moon was glimpsed for a few seconds during the next two hours.
Other LAS members who joined us in a cloud/bridge watching session were Graham Roberts, Chris Banks and Dave Bentley. We were also joined by about half a dozen members of the public. Only John Naylor decided to set up his scope and this prompted a good source of questions from our visitors.
Jim Stacey took a few photos which are shown below.
I decided to get comfortable by setting up my folding chair and TWO coffee tables. It was nice and dry, with no hint of rain. Unfortunately, there was not really any hint of clear skies either. Still, there's always next time!
Our next visit to this Visitors Centre has already been arranged with Halton Rangers for Fri 4 Mar 2005.
