EVENT REPORT - Dave Owen - The weather prospects did not seem too promising for this event so I decided not to take the 16 inch telescope from Pex Hill. However, Jim Stacey was able to set up his Celestron 6 inch GoTo telescope. Lawrence Ashworth set up his 4 inch f9 refractor. Dave Bentley set up his 85mm short focus refractor, with a binocular viewer. The only other telescope that was able to take advantage of the gradually improving conditions was Steve Southern's 70mm f5 refractor.
At about 20:24, 16 visitors were inside the bowling club meeting room listening to Brendan Martin's talk. At about 21:00, Geoff Regan started another talk. By this time, surprisingly enough, the weather was sufficiently clear to allow some very impressive views of the Moon in Dave Bentley's 85mm refractor with its binocular viewer. After a bit of jiggery-pokery, Lawrence was able to get his binocular viewer to work with his telescope.
At about 21:35, Geoff had finished his talk and we slowly packed up and left. We estimated the number of visitors as about 20. There were also about 11 LAS members present. The West Lancashire Ranger, Chris Horsfall, was also in attendance and provided access to his kitchen, solving our hot drink problem.
As usual, Jim Stacey was able to take some event pictures which can be seen by following the URL below:
