Members of the Liverpool Astronomical Society, (founded in 1881), will display several telescopes for viewing the Moon, Venus and Saturn, if clear. There will also be an illustrated talk on astronomy. ***** This event is free, and is open to all members of the public.

EVENT REPORT - Dave Owen - As the weather looked doubtful for this event I decided not to take my 16 inch Dobsonian. Instead, I managed to persuade Jim Lawler to bring John Simcock's 14 inch Dobsonian, as well as John himself.

I arrived at 19:28 with Geoff Regan and Geoff's son Chris. Lew Brown followed close behind us. When we arrived, the Sefton Ranger, Rachel, was already serving tea and coffee to the people who had arrived before us, such as Jim Lawler and Jim Stacey. Dave Bentley arrived a few minutes later.

The weather stayed mostly very cloudy and drizzly, although it did dry out a bit later on and we were able to see the Moon for a few seconds - not really long enough to tempt anyone to start using a telescope though.

Geoff Regan did two talks inside the Visitors Centre - Our Place in the Solar System and Our Place in the Universe.

Although 30 people had expressed an interest in attending this event, we were not surprised that only 7 turned up to view a lot of cloud. These visitors were slightly outnumbered by the 10 LAS members who whiled away the cloudy hours by general chit chat and ruminations on the fickle nature of our weather. As is sometimes said, "tomorrow is another night"?
