TOURNAMENT RESULTS

People have been begging me to end the tournament, so I figured before I started receiving death threats, I'd better count up the results. Check here to see who won.

About my long absence
   [10-28-2003 8:53 PM --Brian]

First up, my domain ffclassic.com has expired, and I lack the funds to renew it for the time being. The address at planetnintendo and classicgaming still work fine though. It's questionable how many people actually USED ffclassic.com, since I didn't make a habit of pointing it out, so I'm not too worried.

More importantly: it's been about 2 months since my last update, and that should probably tell you something right there. Too many things have come up in my life, and I don't really have the time or patience to keep working on the site on a regular basis. This place is still my baby, and I'm not going to let it die or anything. It'll be here as long as Gamespy keeps hosting it, and that's likely going to be a long long time. This place is already far bigger than I ever imagined it'd be. I find myself struggling to think of what more I can add to the site now, and the things I do come up with would take a lot of effort for questionable payoff. I will try to keep updating the fanart, but I can't really even promise to do that. Darn real life.

In short, this is probably the end of regular updates for the site, at least for the time being. If you email me, I'm likely not going to get back to you any time soon. Most questions people ask me are answered in my FAQ anyways. I encourage people to borrow, use, steal, etc. all my info and to spread it around the internet, as I posted in my FAQ. I will leave this site as a repository for information about the wonderful game that is FF1, and I think it will serve well in that regard even without further updates from me. Have fun with the game.

Some info about fanart
   [09-04-2003 8:53 PM --Brian]

Please don't send me sprite comics. I feel kind of bad because people keep sending them to me, but I like to keep the fanart section full of "art". It doesn't take much artistic skill to make a sprite comic. Not to say it doesn't take any skill at all, some sprite comics are pretty amusing and require plenty of creativity, but it doesn't take much "art" to copy/paste/arrange some sprites. So I prefer not to include them on the site. Thanks.

I haven't been working on the site very much at all lately. I'll see what I can come up with this month.

Added some new fanart and a new fanfic. Thanks a ton to everyone who sent some in.

I updated the FAQ a little. Next round of the tournament will probably be next week.

FF1 on TV!
   [07-05-2003 8:15 PM --Brian]

Some of you might be lucky(?) enough to get the TV channel G4, an entire channel about video games. Well today they did a brief review of FF Origins. Five minutes at the end of a show, but hey, better than nothing. Some highlights were seeing them have a White Mage cast HARM on Garland for some reason, and seeing a black belt getting killed by an Ogre. :) They also reviewed FF2j which is also part of FFO for those of you who haven't bought it (yet). Apparently they believe that Cecil, Rosa, and Tellah are among the characters in FF2j. Apparently G4's writers have also never played FF2 or FF4 in their lives.

Text walkthrough
   [07-01-2003 1:36 PM --Brian]

In a sad, sad attempt to prove that I'm not entirely laze, I'm going to start uploading my text walkthrough as I work on it. Note: It's not done. I haven't proofread it. I haven't checked it for errors. I know there are errors. A lot of errors. I don't need you to email me and tell me about them. :) If you look at it, look at it for the purpose of curiosity only. I'll write here to indicate when it's actually done. In the meantime I'll be changing the thing almost every day. Maybe it'll be at least marginally useful to someone out there though.

In completely non-related news, if you've never heard of MozillaFirebird, you should take a look. I remember fondly the days of the browser wars, when every site had "Recommended IE4 or Netscape4". I think most people have forgotten browsers other than IE even exist though. Ah well.

Hi.
   [07-01-2003 1:36 PM --Brian]

My thanks to Skye for all her hard work with the site over the past year. I'll be covering the fan-stuff again now. New directions for how to send in Fanart, Fanfics, and Fanmusic can be found on their respective pages. Please don't email Skye any more of those.

Thanks in advance to all the offers to help me with the fan submissions in place of Skye, but I'd rather do it myself.

Bye.
   [07-01-2003 2:00 AM --Skye]

This is going to be my last update. I haven't felt like updating for two months, and I've been noticing a trend like this developing. It's been getting to the point where I fear opening my inbox because I know that I'm going to have to do it some day, but I never want that day to be today. Since I can't even make myself take two hours out of my day to give you guys fanart, I figure that I should just not do it at all. It doesn't feel right making myself do it if I don't care about it anymore. I'm sorry for all the inconvenience I've put everyone through, and I really appreciate your patience. You guys have been wonderful.

Here's the fanart, fanfics and fanmusic. You'll have to wait for the music, unfortunately, because I don't have access to FilePlanet, so I'll have to get Brian to do that. From now on, you can email your fan stuff to him. Bye. =)

FFO Logo
   [06-26-2003 2:18 AM --Brian]

People have been emailing me a lot about the FF Origins logo and the opening FMV. I don't know who the guy in the logo is, but I think it's Garland. Don't quote me on that. It might be a random unnamed knight of some sort too. I didn't think people cared that much about it.

Interesting link
   [06-23-2003 2:18 AM --Brian]

Go look at this at FFOrigins in case you haven't seen it already. It's interesting as heck. I think so anyways. (Look at the rest of the site while you're there. It's good.)

I'm still working on the text walkthrough. I'm up to the Sky Castle. It's longer than I thought it'd be and I haven't had much motivation to work on it lately, but I'm getting there.

Walkthrough chapters rearranged...
   [05-20-2003 10:23 PM --Brian]

I was meaning to switch around the chapters in the walkthrough for a while, to go Gurgu -> Ice Cave -> class change instead of Ice Cave -> class change -> Gurgu. So I just did. This is the order the plot is supposed to follow. I'm sure I messed something up while doing it, but oh well, I'll catch it eventually.

Walkthrough in progress.
   [05-16-2003 4:25 PM --Brian]

The text-only walkthrough has somehow managed to evolve into a text-only walkthrough / FAQ / NES-PSX translation guide, etc. I'd say it's about halfway done. I'd upload what I have, but I'm going to change so much stuff before it's done that I'd feel terrible to be giving people a crappy incomplete version.

FFO Review.

I wrote up a quick review of FFOrigins. You can read it here.
