mark g. is the dynamite co-host of Poetry Diversified at World Ground Cafe, an ongoing series (Poetry Diversified Poetry Series, World Ground Cafe, 3726 Mac Arthur Blvd., Oakland, 7pm [Free] [510-482-2933] started by Chokwadi and currently hosted by mark g. and Muteado jokwadi@yahoo.com, also see events under the website http://www.worldgrounds.com/events). He is also one of the members of Tres Santos which has been tearing up poetic ground throughout the East Bay with its theatrical contrast between lighter work, sweet background singing and powerful dark poetry that erupts many times before the audience is ready for it. mark g. is a powerful poet whose poems will leave an indelible image on the listener - I still remember the vivid images from the darkness of serving in the Vietnam war contrasted with the death toll on Oakland streets in one of mark's poems. He can also write quirky, lighter work such as the following:
(untitled)
when asked how I practice my art
why the way that I get up in the morning
that I get up in the morning
in the morning
morning
