Charselle 7/8/04 & 2/17/05

County Fair

River of roots
Congregation
Rhythm of blues
Soul sensations
Hippie hair and gray-beard
Flirtations
Dance your youth
In sweet memory temptation
Wrinkles fade with gray hairs
In sunset backlight
Butts remembered tight
Boogie-woogie till dawn
While old bikers
Carry on, carry on
The band still plays
The same old incantations
As the Church of The Past
Reconvenes
For one night only
Reclaim the scene
And fiddle the wind blown blossoms
Of your spring.

Bio: "Charselle is a multitalented, award winning poet/entertainer. She is delighted to have been described as one of the Showboats of the Bay Area poetry scene. Her poetry is that of a raconteur filled with vivid imagery, innuendo, pathos and humor. Describing herself as a cross between Betty Crocker and Mae West, she has published one book of poetry, Juice, The Sweeties Collection, and is also the author of three children's books. Since beginning to write in late 2002 her work has been lauded by a few, (obviously wise, LOL), academics and applauded by audiences around the bay. She is pleased that her first book of poems is being taught at one bay area school this year. As an entertainer she has been enthralling audiences with her irresistible stage presence for years. She brings a raw passion and intensity to her poetry performances." I first saw Charselle read at Sweeties in San Francisco although perform is a better word for it. With her background in theatre, Charselle turns the mike into a stage and the whole room lights up as she reads with her wide open arms enclosing the whole audience and her words sending out snapshot after snapshot of dramatic, emotional pictures. A performance by Charselle is as good as seeing a one woman show where you can peruse the poetry after and find even more to emotionally entangle yourself with. DGK
