WINGS OF AN ANGEL
POETRY COLLECTION BY ANGEL LOGAN

Thought Provoking and Picturesque Poetry Collection
Captures The Essence of Life's Journey Through a Season of Promise

Your wings are the very part of your spirit that lifts you and allows you to soar, the place within your heart that holds self-confidence, self-esteem and the hope for all dreams to come true.

"Wings of an Angel" is a poetry collection that represents the wings of Angel Logan. Each poem symbolizes aspects of her journey through life and some of the lessons that she has learned, through her own eyes and through the eyes of many others that she has encountered along the way.

Angel hopes that through her unique style of writing, she'll be able to share and to teach what she has learned, and she hopes that her poems will give her readers the inspiration needed to believe in themselves, to believe in hope and to find their own wings to fly.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

After growing up in Wooster, Ohio and receiving a degree in Liberal Arts from the University of Akron, Angel Logan moved to New England, where she has made Waltham, Massachusetts her home with her husband Dana, of eleven years.

Angel considers Old Orchard Beach, Maine, where she and her husband vacation in the summer, to be her "home away from home." Angel visits often throughout the year and has written many of the poems in Wings of an Angel during her visits. She has found inspiration from the ocean of Old Orchard Beach, as well as from her many friends that reside there, support and believe in her.

Xlibris Unlocks The Door To Self Expression
by Angel Logan, Published Author

Art is the purest form of creativity, sensitivity and self-expression. The gift of art provides the ability to appeal to humanity and share the most creative part of your spirit, with others. The unique and individual work of an artist can entertain, illuminate beauty or pleasure, awaken emotions, provoke thought, enlighten or effect positive results. Artists comprise painters, dancers, actors, musicians, sculptors and writers.

As a writer, I created my work to inspire hope and awareness, as well as discourage fear and despair. I understand the trepidation that many writers face when embarking upon the vessel of the publishing journey. The fear of rejection, the fear of failure and even the fear of success can plague our quest. However, today we have options to unblock the hindrances of fear.

During the previous days of traditional publishing, alternative options weren't available for writers. Rejection letters were many and chances for success were few. This didn't necessarily reflect upon the talent or skill of the writer, because publication was often contingent upon other factors, such as current trends.

Getting published is more challenging today, because the market is so competitive and congested. Aspiring writers inundate the traditional publishing houses with their submissions and often never receive recognition for their work. Many publishers won't consider a writer's work, unless an agent represents them. However, writers are no longer the ones hiring the agents. The agents are the ones that are really doing the hiring. Perhaps some might think it is a matter of semantics. However, today an agent screens writers, just as a publishing house did in the past. Ultimately, the agent is the one who decides if the writer's work is marketable and worthy of publication, before presenting the work to a publisher. The publisher then has the opportunity to accept or decline the work, according to its own criteria.

Agents are extremely knowledgeable in finding a way to mold a product into the needs of the publisher's current market. However, this can be a time consuming, expensive and an arduous process. The writer is still often subjected to a multitude of rejections, from prospective agents and publishers and the chances for publication are minimal. As well, the work of the writer might not be the same at publication as it was when initially submitted.

Today, we have a new method of publishing called "Self-Publishing." You'll find that many types of self-publishing companies are available, which is why researching carefully and weighing all of your options is important. Some companies charge exorbitant fees, while others charge low fees. Some provide very little support or promotion, while others stand firmly behind their authors. The publication process varies with some offering a variety of benefits and others offering very few benefits. Sometimes writers must relinquish the rights to their work. However, often they can retain all rights to their work, to take to another publishing house if they choose.

I researched several different self-publishing companies, until I found the one I thought would best meet all of my specific needs. The company I chose is Xlibris Corporation. "Xlibris is a publishing services company based in Philadelphia and a strategic partner of Random House Ventures, LLC, a subsidiary of Random House, Inc." "Xlibris gives the writer all of the tools needed to publish a book quickly, easily and affordably. Through leading-edge, print-on-demand technology, they offer a wide variety of Design, Production and Publishing Services, as well as online distribution availability and Marketing Products for self-publishing authors. In addition, their dedicated team of customer service representatives are available to help their authors every step of the way in order to ensure a seamless and successful publication process."

With Xlibris, my book has an (ISBN) International Standard Book Number, a copyright and a listing within the Library of Congress. It also has availability through online distribution channels, listings with Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com and has a variety of marketing services available.

I maintain control in the design process of my book, I retain all rights and my book never goes out of print. "Because Xlibris utilizes Print on Demand technology, which enables them to keep costs low during production, they can offer a variety of other services to their authors. Xlibris prints books as customers order them. They use modern technology to store and print books in electronic form, removing the need for a warehouse and large print runs. This method reduces two of the greatest costs in publishing, allowing more authors to publish and to have their books remain in print forever." "In addition, Xlibris doesn't require the author to purchase any copies of their own books; authors can simply tell their readers where to purchase copies."

Of course, I'm a little bit of a control freak. Therefore, this type of service was perfect for me. The up front fee was affordable, enabling me to have as much control as I needed -- to produce the book of my dreams. However, many need a little more help and guidance. Xlibris has everything that an author would need for the production of their book. I don't have to become a door to door salesman. I can let Xlibris do the work, which includes the shipment and delivery of all ordered books. As well, I receive a quarterly royalty check for each book sold.

Yes, marketing can be more challenging. However, who better to market a book than the author? An Xlibris author has as little or as much control as preferred. You aren't subjected to rejections, because they will publish your work. Of course, critics are skeptical of self-publishing and don't always revere it as a legitimate means of publishing. Although it has been around for a little while, they often feel that if you can pay a fee to get published, anyone can. Perhaps the work will be inadequate, forging the way for writers who don't have any talent.

Personally, I believe that art is in the eye of the beholder. Those with less talent can pay to get their books published. However, who are we to judge them harshly for doing the work and spending the money out of their pockets, to publish their work? Who are we to judge talent, as talent is subjective? Authors have the right to make their voices heard, to express themselves through available channels and to present their art to the public.

As a published author of a poetry collection, I believe that my work represents me and the message I wish to share. If you don't enjoy it, it doesn't mean my words are incorrect -- it means the message wasn't meant for your mind. If you don't like a particular type of music, it doesn't make the music bad -- it just means it isn't meant for your ears. If you don't like the portrait painted by a renowned artist, it doesn't mean the artist has no talent -- it means it isn't meant for your eyes.

I consider myself very fortunate to be an Xlibris author, because they know how to help writers to become authors. They stand firmly behind me and they are the best company to meet my specific needs. If you are a writer, the words you are willing to share are beautiful, because they come from your heart and it is your way of expressing you. The key to literary success is opening your heart, believing in your gifts and having a voice. As well, it is sharing the parts of your spirit that make you who you are -- and knowing beyond everything else, that Xlibris believes in you enough to unlock the doors to your self-expression.

Angel Logan of Waltham knows something about following her dreams. She has worked in telecommunications, has been a sound engineer and has a wedding consulting business.

Logan knows from experience it can be challenging reaching for one's goals.
In her book, "Wings of an Angel," a collection of poetry, Logan reaches out to inspire others to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams.

"The poetry represents life's lessons of my experiences, and those of others,
because life is hard and people are easily discouraged," said the author. "I want people to know their dreams can always come true, and hope I can get that message across through my writing."

The poem, "Field of Gold," represents the essence of her book in which she wants readers to understand they don't have to be afraid or alone.

"There is always hope," said Logan.

But fear plays a big part in making dreams difficult -- if not impossible -- and she addresses that demon in several of her poems, such as "Silent Tears": "Her heart breaks / each time that she witnesses / the pain of agony and loss, / But she veils her sadness / with determination / to free those imprisoned by fear."

"Most people are ruled by fear, rejection or fear of success," she said. "Fear has a tendency to inhibit people from being able to pursue their dreams and what they are passionate about in life. I want the book to be able to touch each reader individually in some special way in their own life and remind them not to give up."

Logan's favorite poem, "Sands of Time," speaks of overcoming another fear -- love. "It's about keeping love in your heart and being able to be free to love without any type of limitations," she said.

The author knows love having been married to her husband, Dana, for seven years. Husband and wife balance each other. "With everything in life, it requires work, determination and commitment," she said. "For us, it's team work.'

Other poems, such as "Golden Cloak of Light," is about women who have been in abusive relationships. "They don't realize the light inside of them," said Logan.

The extroverted Logan meets the people she writes about in different situations. "Often people come and ask me for advice and at the same time, they inspire me in my poetry," said Logan. "Sometimes I sense people need help, but a lot of times people feel comfortable enough to tell me what they are feeling and what's going on in their life."

"Wings of an Angel," is appropriately named. Wings represent the dreams she has for her readers and Angel is her first name.

No stranger to writing, at 14 Logan began keeping a journal, and tried writing some poetry and short stories in high school.

"During those days it was always about first love," said Logan.

The collection of poems is not just for women. Several of the poems, such as "Sweet Pirate," represents men she has known who have known struggle.

"It kind of represents a lot of single fathers," said Logan. "It's about men who just haven't had enough faith in the gifts that they have. The idea is to help them find their own path."

"Wings of an Angel" was released last December, after which Logan had a big celebration -- complete with an ice sculpture of an angel -- given to her by a friend. "It was my dream to write a book and have it published. I wanted to have the ultimate celebration with people I care about to share it with me."

In addition to helping goal seekers, the author also helps servicemen and women serving with the U.S. Marines in Iraq by sending supplies including phone cards, zipper freezer bags, baby wipes, nutritional and Gaterade powders, AA batteries and travel-size grooming items such as soaps and disposable razors.

On her own she also sends letters or items to the troops, which she is very passionate about. "I'm not sure about (the) war," said Logan. "But it's important that we support the troops and they know they are not forgotten. If we can give them...any type of help, supplies or whatever, it's really important. We have so many freedoms."

Logan sees the troops as a mirror image of what she does. "I think they are doing something they are passionate about," she said. "They are fighting to make our dreams come true, the same way I try to help others with my book."

In life, Logan's goal is to continue learning so she can teach others and they, in turn, will teach others. "It's the school of life," she said.

"This collection was eloquent in every sense of the word. With the profound theme of human nature, fear of rejection and opening yourself to the world, Angel Logan will pull you deeper into her words and have you scrambling to turn to the next page. I loved the colorful layout of the book and the fabulous illustrations only served to enhance the already beautiful poetry.

It would be difficult for me to pinpoint a favorite poem but I enjoyed Sands of Time, Tangle of Rainbows, and overall On The Edge. This poetry author had an amazing way of weaving in colors and textures that made her poems tangible.
Wonderful job – I crave more of Angel Logan's poetry."

"Wings Of An Angel is a remarkable and recommended collection of original and intimate poetry by Angel Logan. Each featured poem is paired with a full page illustration. With a message reaching out to readers and guide them through the ideals of love and insights of life, Wings Of An Angel contributes rare and intricate stylings for a unique projection of an enveloping dialect.

Ivory Rose: She aimlessly ponders/through the twisted/tangles of uncertainty,/trying to unravel the mystery/of her own trepidation.//The key remains/within the hands of time's unwilling patience/to see what stands/right before her eyes.//The garden of gifts/that capture her soul,/releases the magical blossoms/of life's winding chapters,/opening the ivory rose/of serenity.//Just as each petal/holds unique and wondrous beauty,/her heart nurtures/the essence of innocence and love,/and as long as she believes/in her very own special gifts,/she'll conquer her fear/with happiness."

"...your wings are the part of your spirit that lifts you in life and allows you to soar. It is the place within your heart where dreams come true, the place where hope and confidence live and the place where growth and awareness begin."
~ Angel Logan

Angel Logan's poetry is filled with beauty, magic and wisdom. Pictures, like dreamscapes, accompany each poem to enhance the message presented and give a sense of completion to each stage in Angel Logan's personal journey.

"The hidden life and love that remains locked within your prison of fear will freely release as you begin to see yourself and all of the good that is inside of you, awaiting to be shared with those you love."
~Sea of Reflection

In Tangle of Rainbows, Angel describes a moonlit beach, sunlight and rainbows all in one poem. The words flow in colors and experience, creating a celebration of words themselves. In Hello, Goodbye images of clouds and rain describe the feelings in metaphors and moments. A Window & A Door is a conversation between a girl and her angel.

Many of the poems reveal images of oceans, angels and flowers. Angel Logan's words capture an inner garden of truth where your soul can grow and her wisdom is evident throughout. I especially love the words in On the Edge:

"Life's redemption
will arise from the healing
of the spirit
and the choice
to follow the path
of virtue and light,
through the portal of awareness."

"The moment I saw "Wings of an Angel" I knew it was simply a gift, waiting to be given to someone special. The light lavender cover and art work send out a feeling of immediate relaxation. You open the cover to find even more beauty inside. Short, eclectic prose blesses the pages alongside coordinating colored art work that is quite beautiful and creative. It seems as much thought went into the art work of the book as the writing and the two combine together to give you the gift of prose that will simply calm.

I see this book as a perfect gift for events when you’re not quite sure what to give. Any spiritual gatherings where perhaps your faith isn't quite the same and you don't feel comfortable giving something of their faith, yet want to still bless them with something touching. Perhaps the birth of a child, when the parent's need a special gift to let them know they're special. Mother's day, birthdays, any day that you simply want to tell someone they're special and thought of and need to take the time themselves to enjoy a little peace with the world.

While it is a book of angels and finding oneself, it's not a sappy religious view that overwhelms the reader with issues and provoking thoughts. Instead it has a calming effect, much like a warm lavender filled tub does at the end of a stressful day. One of my favorite poems in the book was "At Paradise Cafe", with it's ending verse that says "Paradise Cafe is the place within your heart where music rings the song of hope..." That particular poem reminds oneself of how important YOU are, as you sit at the Paradise Cafe across from yourself, for a moment to look deep within and make discoveries.

"Wings of an Angel" is a beautiful collection of poetry that gently relaxes one from the inside out and somehow within it's few pages of beauty can bring you to an inner peace each time you open it. An absolute work of beauty."

Commentary by CHRIS GOEBEL (Txpoet)
Introduction to Angel Logan's "Blissful Moments" and "Sands of Time"
Editor-in-Chief - Humdinger Literary E-Zine and Magazine

"This month, Humdinger presents more of Angel Logan's passionate poetry.
It is not commonly passionate; rather, Angel's poems are passionate about the reader:
they offer a gift to us in the form of hope and inspiration.
In "Blissful Moments," a character "wanders through the haze/ of her own anguish"
and she is saved by someone who "paints a portrait of courage" and "mends her broken wings."
We take this poem for granted if we don't understand its message of hope.
After reading it, one should stop and think:
yes, we can do that for each other;
we can restore one another's souls.

In "Sands of Time," again we see examples of the pain of everyday life:
"The test of trust and faith/ belongs to those nearest who can tear us apart."
Life isn't easy, but as is characteristic of Angel's poetry, happy endings are possible:

We are the sands of time,
the hourglass that keeps us true and free.
As long as we keep love in our hearts,
the sands will never run out.

The greatest value in Angel Logan's poetry is in its purpose.
How often do you read something that has as its intention
the desire to improve your outlook on life and the quality of it? 'Nuff said."

Commentary by CHRIS GOEBEL (Txpoet)
Editor-in-Chief - Humdinger Literary E-Zine and Magazine

"Angel Logan immediately impressed me by explaining her desire
to help inspire her readers as an introduction.
Her poetry catches the reader off guard as her introduction did.
"Labyrinth of Illusion" makes me want to write a story that matches.
Ah, but I have! Now I remember a labyrinth scene in one of my novels.
The lines "I visit the place/entangled within my thoughts/where magic and mystery live"
invite the imagination to envision the maze.
Some words conjure immediate imagery and labyrinth is one such word.

Angel's "Fleeting Muse" creates creative beauty:
"You have impaled my fears of risk/with your sword of adventure ..."
The fantasy language works well with a theme that teaches
that love births bold poetic babies.
Since Angel's book of poetry is published,
she requested no changes be made to her work, so none have.
Be sure to check out her website,
where you can read more samples of her book,
a touching work of "angel"ic art."

Blissful Moments
Excerpt from the book,
Wings of an Angel Poetry Collection by Angel Logan

"Angel ~

this is absolutely gorgeous!
it made me sigh deeply from start to finish ...

"When the frayed edges of her spirit,
capture the chill of caged anxiety,
he paints a portrait of her courage"

how perfect is this? the imagery and perfect
flow is intimately magical and serene ...."

"Angel ~

this is magnificent, i LOVED it!

"With you I’m free of expectations,
free to be me,
unbound by the law of life
and true to the deepest part of my soul"

now this would be unbound bliss!

this travels, takes the reader on a journey
mirrored in the language of the poem ..."

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

"I love 'Field of Gold', It is one of my many favorites.
It reminds me of the strength of my son, who has passed.
His beautiful glow, his messages that I feel.
Especially when I feel his presence.
He always danced around with his happiness, no matter how ill.
He is with me always, as is the 'Field of Gold'.
The artwork by Marcia Davis is very moving, the colors are wonderful.
Great job! I look forward to seeing and reading many more of your books."

"My impression of your book .....
I really enjoy it. To me a book of poetry is something
you leave on a bedside table, or at the breakfast nook - a place where
you can pick it up when you have a moment of solitude.
Your book makes that easy to do. When I open it up,
each poem stands out as more than black print on a page.
The colors, the print, the illustrations make each poem an artistic creation.
I don't know if I've read the whole book and honestly it doesn't matter
because each day I pick it up, thumb through the pages to something
that catches my eye - that poem is my thought for the day."

"In clear, accessible prose, Angel reaches out to the reader
about her life's journey, both light and dark.
The tone and imagery infused throughout the book
produces a stimulus to reflect on our inner self and our own journey.
Wings of an Angel is a valuable choice for expanding our consciousness.
One comes away feeling empowered and inspired."
