Ideally the music should not distract from the dance, but encourage the dancer to be at one with it. Older recordings from the Golden Age may lack the high definition of today's recordings, but can provide a suitable background for a Cokey salon or a pratice session.

If the music is too loud or dramatic, it can draw attention to itself and damage the intimacy of the dance or break the connection of the dancers leading to overly large movements not at the heart of the dance. As a rule, horrible popular versions heard by the masses are to be avoided.

Good recordings can be found in any good dance shop (usually based in London) and there are many good outlets elsewhere (Holland).
