Concrete Vapors [Everything] That year the junkies were flying off the roof like angels, or cars in a Hollywood movie: human rockets meaning to make some noise, but ending up silent as a love going home unused. I found you down by the market, in the field where you can see the radio transmitters. We pretended they were towers in Paris, or ladders to a sound we could not lose. You know how you turn heads, but you just wanted to turn the world inside out; you just wanted to turn eyes around to carve their vision in the air. Sunlight seeped like vapors, like blood, into your skin. I see you’re dressed up, but not really waiting for anything or anywhere. Well, I’m ready for the world. Well, you talked about the difference between gods and garbage, the way to exits, the way to echoes, the path away from collection, the path away from parasites. Like a child you fit yourself closer to what doesn’t need you, and I’ll hold you like a guitar anyway, yes I will. I don’t know, but I think something broke. Well, it’s your turn now if you want to make a bold movement by standing still, because I am ready for the world. Some chain smokers passed to preach to the dogs and to the water. They were pale and broke and just fifteen. I said I believed in standing, and in leaving your life for rock n roll, and in television, and in origins, and in everything. I dreamt that everything was as concrete as this kind of light-- the kind of black that defines the white, the kind of religion that defines wrong and right, the kind of love that divides the night, the blind advances that deny sight... I dreamt of gods and garbage and the way things are. When I awoke I thought about how I just wanted to dream about you coming to me to stay; and I’d have someone for New Year’s and beyond. Can’t nobody stop what’s coming...anyway... I want to look at you, look into you, and know how deeply I have reached; how much of myself I gave up to the morning vapors to be able to watch you walk down my street. Can’t nobody stop what’s coming to be. Can’t nobody stop the Earth but me. Eve
