A body is a machine
that is best in motion
the warped centrifuge
of a slanted axis
creates shadows that dwell
beneath those that stand still.
To keep one’s shadow in pursuit
is to free the mind
from the machine
in motion

I have found beauty
in a cruel world
and it is all a symphony in my head
the vowels plucked on strings
like synapses.
Only in a world created by men
can beauty appear as the most
extraordinary ruse in history
when in fact
it is the most rudimentary of all

J. Bruce Fuller lives in the piney woods of northern Louisiana. He has published
fiction and poetry in Trespass Magazine and The Helicon, among others.
