The New International Security Environment post-September 11th
Theme

The perspectives of the Common European Security and Defense Policy (CESDP) and its "NATO friendly" implementation in the changing strategic environment.

Purpose

The conference aims to prove that in the changing security environment the creation of a European military and civilian crisis management capability and its harmonnisation with NATO's capabilities carry heightened relevance. The need for cooperation and harmonisation received added emphasis in light of the recent terrorist attacks against the value foundations on which both the EU and NATO are built. It is of particular importance for the EU and NATO aspirant countries of Central and Eastern Europe that the EU and NATO developments in the field of military capabilities move in the same direction and promote the structural reforms needed in the defence sectors of the applicant countries. The conference was conducted with the support of NATO, the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the United States State Department, Control Risks Group, and PricewaterHouseCoopers.
